Snowboarding Is For Everyone - Dominic Kelsey

    Introduction

Snowboarding is a fun, fast-paced winter activity which both young and old can enjoy.

It is also a great sport – represented at the Olympics, the X Games and more.  Viewing numbers for snowboarding events continue to escalate as the number of fans across the globe increases.

There are two factors that help the layperson judge the success of a sport. They are – can an athlete make a living at it, and are there magazines devoted to the subject?

If a sport has a large enough following that monthly magazines devoted to it are viable, that’s a sure sign that a sport is here to stay.

Moreover, if an athlete can make a living at it, this knowledge will ensure that there will always be new generations of snowboarders who set their goal to be good enough to be a professional.

There are also plenty of books on snowboarding – from kids’ books featuring snowboarding protagonists, to fully illustrated books demonstrating how to perform various tricks and turns.

Snowboarding Is For Everyone is proud to join this pantheon.

However we’re going to do something that most books that purport to teach you snowboarding won’t do – we’re going to encourage you to go out and take a few beginners’ lessons before you go out on your own.

This book is going to tell you how to snowboard, of course – so that when you go for your first lesson you’ll be at a comfortable level where you’ll be able to concentrate on what your trainer is telling you, and you’ll be able to grasp his or her instructions more quickly.

Snowboarding – whether you like slaloming down a mountain or doing tricks and hits in a Halfpipe – is a complex and sophisticated sport. As with all physical activities there is a possibility of injury, so the more you know before you grab a board and hit the hills – or the Halfpipe – the better.

    Why Snowboarding?

Why choose snowboarding over cross-country skiing, downhill skiing or snowshoeing?

Well, snowboarding is a rush – something that cross-country skiing and snowshoeing don’t really provide.

So why snowboarding over downhill skiing?

Both sports have a lot to recommend them, so it just comes down to personality.

Snowboarding gives the rider a sense of freedom – he or she can go anywhere (as long as they are physically fit, of course) and experience the beauty of a pristine, snow-covered landscape first hand.

Riding down a mountain or even a bunny hill is such an adrenalin rush that most people who experience it are hooked.

Any physical activity – whether it be walking, jogging, biking, skating, skiing or snowboarding – relieves stress.

Snowboarders, as a whole, are also some of the friendliest people on the planet. Competitors of course will compete, but everyone else just likes to hang out and have a good time.

If you’re a competitor, then there’s the opportunity for
