Introduction
So, why Linux?
If you fancy a career as a hacker (ethical)/programmer, you ought to learn what some refer to as the language of the internet. Linux is a kernel (will be defined in more detail). Linux was released by a guy called Linus Torvalds. It is immensely popular and is widely embraced in the programming community.
It is technically a UNIX clone, UNIX being a commercialized trademark held by The Open Group which is in charge of its licensing. Linux is a UNIX-like operating system. It is widely regarded as the most user-friendly UNIX-like operating system. When we call Linux a kernel, you must be wondering what a kernel is. A kernel is the main/central computer program of the operating system and pretty much controls all activities including input/output operations and memory allocation. It is a key component of the modern personal computer.
It is important to be conversant with Linux because it is a powerful troubleshooting tool. It is something of a package riddled with some nice features. It enables you to manipulate your hardware in ways you had never imagined before. With the enhanced capabilities, you will feel quite in control of your computer as you explore it without limits. You do not have to be a programming guru to set up a formidable work station courtesy of Linux whence you can run some incredible projects. Of course this will come later on when you go through this guide.
