About this ebook
Committing Quotable Quips To Memory Makes Your Conversations More Interesting And Your Speeches Colorful.
- "The Tongue Has No Bones, But Is Strong And Powerful Enough To Illustrate, Elevate, Illuminate, Agitate, Eliminate, Motivate, Help, Hurt, Humble And Heal. Written Words Allow Us To Re-read And Regurgitate The Life Lessons Learned And Turn Them Into Everyday Thoughts And Accompanying Behaviors." - Dan Clark
- “My task, which I am trying to achieve by the written word, is not just to make you hear and to make you feel – but to make you see.” – Joseph Conrad
- “Don’t diminish the power of words, for they move hearts and hearts move limbs.” – Hamza Yusuf
- “If we understood the power of our thoughts, we would guard them more closely. If we understood the awesome power of our words, we would prefer silence to almost anything negative. In our thoughts and words, we create our own weaknesses, limitations, strengths and joys – and therefore can replace the negative with the positive at will.” - Betty Eadie
Dan Clark is founder and CEO of Dan Clark and Associates - an international communications and training firm; High Performance Business Coach; University Professor; an Award Winning Athlete who fought his way back from a paralyzing injury that cut short his football career; Adventurer; Gold Record Songwriter; and a New York Times Best Selling Author.
In 1982, Dan was sponsored into the National speakers Association by world renown Mr. Zig Ziglar, who took him under his wing, and for thirty years personally mentored Dan in the art of motivational teaching. Because Zig was a master storyteller, Dan became a master storyteller. Because Zig said amusing things like, “His smile was so wide he could have eaten a banana sideways,” Dan yearned to be able to create these same word pictures.
However, it was Dan’s mother Ruby who introduced him to the power of quotes, which to this day he still collects and memorizes, transposing them from mere entertainment to life changing nuggets of golden wisdom that constantly improve his vocabulary and illuminate his comprehension of the world. Consequently, Dan has also become a hit songwriter, learning to edit so ‘every word pays its own way,’ knowing it’s the short catchy one-line ‘hook’ that sells the song.
Dan attributes his long speaking career and phenomenal success as a primary contributing author to the Chicken Soup For The Soul book series to his understanding of the power of cleverly created phrases, which since 1982, Dan has shared in his own 34 best selling books, and sprinkled throughout his speeches to millions of people, in over 5800 audiences, in all 50 states, in 68 countries, on 6 continents.
Dan has been inducted into the National Speakers Hall of Fame, has been named one of the Top Ten Motivational Speakers In The World, and smiles his own ‘banana smile’ when he hears other speakers quote his ‘Clarkisms,’ knowing his quotes are some of the most posted truths on the internet - also available as beautiful posters on Dan’s website!

Foreword
My fascination for researching, writing and memorizing memorable quotes was created and nurtured by my dear, sweet mother, Ruby Clark. It’s been said, ‘Wisdom is the gift of the elderly – when an old woman dies an entire library burns to the ground.’ True – especially for my mom.
Throughout my life she has continuously fed me a steady diet of golden nuggets of wisdom and elevated my current understanding with quotable quotes.
Consequently, I have become obsessed with writing powerful one-liners, persuasive paragraphs, and thought provoking songs. In song writing, you take an entire story and consolidate it to three and a half minutes. The hook
of a catchy chorus line is what makes it a hit. Some examples are Thank God for unanswered prayers
and, Whiskey for my men - beer for my horses,
In two more days tomorrow’s yesterday,
Live like you’re dying,
Remember When,
Beat It,
It was the sickness that made me well.
In a joke, the punch line makes the entire joke funny: During a test a kid whispers, ‘How close are you to the answer?’ His friend replies, ‘Two seats away!
In sports, my coach Tom Gadd said, Sportsmanship is when an athlete walks off the field and you can’t tell whether he has won or lost. His hushed dignity, respect for the game, and knowledge that he left it all on the field let him stand tall and be proud.
So… at the end of the day, what’s it all about? Society continually bombards us with commands to balance our lives, make more money, manage our time, and peak our performance, so to whom do we turn to get the job done? Turn to the wisdom of a mentor.
Teacher Verses Mentor
Mentors are different than teachers. Oftentimes teachers confuse teaching with talking. Oftentimes teachers blame their inability to instruct someone as a ‘learning disability’ when in fact it’s a ‘learning difference’ with a ‘teaching disability.’
Of course I love and honor educators. Teaching is the profession that makes all other professions possible. No one in our world would even have a job if it wasn’t for our wonderful teachers. They have dreams for sale in every sense of the word.
However, a mentor is a master teacher, who teaches with the mindset of a coach who understands that the only place from which a person can grow is where he or she is. So they go where we are physically and emotionally because it is only there where they can gently invite us to learn and improve.
The title ‘teacher’ sounds academic and sterile as they enforce the letter of the law. Teachers see with eyesight, but ‘mentors’ see with insight. The title ‘mentor’ encompasses passion and wisdom. Mentors are emotional and enforce the spirit of the law. Mentors use creativity and imagination to cut through the clutter of daily life to reveal the simple truths that empower us.
My mentor, S. Wayne Clark (my dad) forever changed my life when he shared with me the following quote:
You are under no obligation to be the same person you were a year, month, day, or even 15 minutes ago. You have the right to grow. But can only grow when you comprehend sadness gives depth - happiness gives height. Sadness gives roots - Happiness gives branches. Happiness is like a tree going up into the sky, and sadness is like the roots going down into the womb of the earth. Both are needed. The higher a tree grows, the deeper it goes. The bigger the tree, the bigger the roots – simultaneous and in proportion.
To set the tone for the rest of this collection of my own ‘Clarkisms,’ I challenge you to memorize the following four quotes, that they may become the foundational philosophies that will govern your everyday thoughts, feelings and comprehension of life:
An armored up warrior never has to get ready – he/she stays ready!
—Navy Seal
The two most important days of your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why.
—Mark Twain
Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will spend its entire life believing it is stupid.
—Albert Einstein
The most visible creators I know are those artists whose medium is life itself. The ones who express the inexpressible – without brush, hammer, clay, or guitar. They neither paint nor sculpt. There medium is being. Whatever their presence touches has increased life. They see and they don’t have to draw. They are the artists of being alive.
—J. Stone

Achieving The Level Beyond Success™
Law 1
Practice Obedience Beyond Freewill Agency
because that which is governed by law is also protected and preserved by law, and in order for the law to work in our lives, we must choose to act accordingly.
There is a set of universal laws, irrevocably decreed and set in motion as the foundations of this world, upon which all increase, profits and desired outcomes are predicated. When we achieve anything personally or accomplish anything professionally, it is by strict obedience to that law upon which it is predicated. When we obey the law we reap the rewards attached to that law. When we disobey we suffer the specific consequences.
It is not enough to say I will do my best. We must succeed in doing that which is necessary.
Everyday we need to start our day by asking: ‘Where am I right now?’ Because no matter where you go there you are. A geographic relocation doesn’t change much! You must stand up from where you sit and grow healthy and strong from where you are planted. Whenever we book an UBER ride, we are required to enter in our present location. If we lie about where we are, the directions won’t work!
Knowledge is power, but knowledge has no heart. Reason leads to conclusions, but it is emotion that leads to action.
We must seek wisdom, not just information. Wisdom is applied knowledge. All the information in the world isn’t going to make a person successful. It’s like the guy who has three PhDs: one in
