      Hi, Seri says, looking shy.

      Her beautiful hair is pulled back, so I can see her almond-shaped brown eyes clearly. The medicine Kenny’s giving her is making her bruises fade before my eyes, but I can almost feel her pain like it’s a physical thing—and I know it’s not just physically painful for her.

      Hey.

      I don’t know how much you know, but I’m sorry.

      I move without thinking, sitting on the edge of her bed and taking her hand in mine. You have nothing to be sorry for. I wish you’d come to me for help, but I know I pushed you to do what you originally did. I’m the one who’s sorry for being too scared to love you the way you deserve to be loved.

      Do you? Do you really love me? I want to believe you do, but it’s so hard.

      Because I’ve said the words, but my actions have said something else. I know. And yes, I love you so much my soul aches when we’re apart. You own all of me, Seri, and I’ve done a shit job of showing you that. Making love to you is amazing, but I’ve used it as a way to distance myself from you.

      Yes.

      These are still just words to you and I know I need to show you I mean them. I also need you to know I didn’t just come to this decision tonight, when I thought I’d lost you. I made changes when I got your note telling me you’d be back.

      What changes?

      I cancelled all my dates—well, almost all. I still have a date to the Masquerade, but every other night I’m yours. Mornings and afternoons too.

      Her lips tremble and I think she’s going to cry. I don’t get it because she should be happy right now. I’m going to give her everything she wants and
