About this ebook
Catalytic Amination for N-Alkyl Amine Synthesis provides a useful survey of this key type of reaction for chemistry researchers in academia and industry. Beginning with an introduction to amination and the development of the field, the book focuses on useful and high potential methods, such as the catalytic amination of alcohol with homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts, the coupling reaction of olefin and amine, and the reductive amination of carbon dioxide with different reducing agents. The work also discusses two key examples of one-pot synthesis, the oxidative amination of alkane and amine and synthesis of N-alkyl amine with nitrobenzene and nitrile as starting materials.
Valuable for chemists, materials scientists, chemical engineers and others, the book offers a unique overview of this growing area and its future possibilities.
- Describes the catalytic amination of alcohol with homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts
- Discusses the one-pot oxidative amination of alkane and amine
- Explores the application of ammonia as the N-source in amination reaction to avoid primary or secondary amine synthesis

Feng Shi received his B.S. degree in chemistry from ShanDong Normal University in 1998. In 2004, he completed his Ph.D. studies in catalysis/physical chemistry at Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, CAS, in the group of Prof. Youquan Deng. After one year at Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics as research associate, he then spent a three-year postdoctoral research with Prof. Matthias Beller in Leibniz Institute for Catalysis as an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship (2005-2007) and Research Fellowship of Leibniz Institute for Catalysis (2007-2008). In the end of 2008, he joined the faculty of Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics and become full Professor for Catalysis, and group leader of nano-catalysis for fine chemical synthesis. Since 2016 Feng Shi is the deputy director of the State Key Laboratory for Oxo Synthesis and Selective Oxidation. His research interests are focused on preparation, characterization and catalytic performance exploration of nano-catalysts for N-/O- containing fine chemical synthesis via catalytic activation of alcohol, alkane, carbon dioxide and bio-mass based molecules. His scientific work has been published in more than 100 original publications and review articles, and cited by other research groups for more than 3700 times. In addition, >20 patent applications have been filed in the last decade. Feng Shi has received several awards such as the President Scholarship of the CAS (2001/2003), CAS Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award (2005), National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award (2006), Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship (2005) and Chinese Chemical Society Award for Outstanding Young Chemist (2010).
