Introduction
As a music producer, you just finished spinning a new beat, you shared it with all your friends, and have also used your headphones to listen to the beat over and over again. Your friends tell you it is cool and you think it is time to push it to the general public. You have heard that there are many ways of promoting your music, you have tried these methods, but they seem not to yield results, and now, you are thinking and asking yourself, Can I really earn a living as a producer?
The answer is that you can earn a living as a music producer, but you must be ready to do the things that others are not willing to do. When it comes to promoting your music, your presentation matters a lot. If you keep saying the same thing over and over again like the other people, your result might not be in any way different from that of the other people.
I have discovered that many music producers use the "push technique rather than the
pull technique" when trying to promote and market their music. As a result, they don’t see results from their efforts. And that has made a lot of producers think they could never earn a living with their skills. But that’s not true. With the techniques and tips you will learn from this book, you will start marketing and promoting to the right audience and start reaping the fruits of your labor. Without much ado, let’s look at the various means of marketing and promoting your music to the right audience both online and offline.
Chapter One: Different ways of earning as a music producer
Before we look at the different ways of promoting and marketing your music, let’s quickly look at the different ways you can earn as a music producer.
As a music producer, you can make money through the following means:
Royalties
Synch/license tracks
Selling sample packs
Offer mixing, mastering, and production services
Selling beats
Just knowing these means of earning a living as a music producer is not enough, you need to know the right approach to doing them.
First, before we talk about any of the approaches, there is something you need to understand – before you can be able to earn a living as a music producer, you need to know your craft. For a person to earn money, he/she must be selling a product or rendering a service. As a music producer, your product in this sense is your music. Hence, before thinking of earning a living with your music production skills, you must have dedicated years of training and learning in making sure you know your craft.
That said, assuming you are now very confident in your abilities, it is time for me to show how to earn more with your skills.
Sales and royalties
I know this sounds basic, but I still have to include it. For you to earn royalties as a music producer, you need to learn how publishing, ownership, and royalties
