Textile designer and illustrator Maria Carluccio delivers a sweet sartorial alphabet book in D Is for Dress-Up, which pairs charming digital illustrations featuring a diverse cast of children with an A-Z exploration of what we wear. From aprons to zippers, hats to raincoats, each page features an article of clothing, type of fabric, or method of construction (x-stitch, quilted) beginning with the next letter in the alphabet.Although there's little here textually - one letter and one word per page - to truly engage the adult reader, I did find D Is for Dress-Up a winsome little book, and a welcome addition to the alphabet-book genre. I particularly appreciated the fact that Carluccio depicts a wide range of children in her artwork, as I am always looking for fun titles for younger children that feature a diverse cast, without that diversity being in any way the point of the book. Recommended to anyone looking for new alphabet picture-books.
