Preface
This book is all about caregiving. It is written for all caregivers—full-time caregivers, part-time, paid and unpaid, at home, at a distance, in a facility, and all others.
Caregivers around the world are responsible for caring and meeting the needs of those who are not able to care for themselves. The different roles they play in homes, medical facilities, and elderly housing communities are very important. Caregiving is a difficult job. Caregivers wear many hats such as housekeeper, menu planner, cook, driver, medication expert, health coordinator, and cleanliness facilitator. Some caregivers are professionally trained and certified in first-aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and basic life support skills. Others are not, but they are just doing the best they can caring for a loved one either in a home or facility.
In this book, I have incorporated many topics associated with the task of caregiving. Whether one looks at it as an arduous task to complete or a God-given privilege, Christian Caregiving will provide practical advice for caring for your parents or loved ones. Both newcomers and veterans in the field will learn about the aging process, getting affairs in order, advocating, housing options, spirituality, and happily reaching the end of life. Beginners will be grateful for a short but informative introduction to multiple topics in one short read, and novices will be refreshed on the basic principles of being a compassionate provider. While this book is written mainly for family caregivers, those tending to the elderly in facility and home environments will gain valuable knowledge from the insights, tips, and Bible verses mentioned throughout this book.
It is this author’s prayer that caregivers look at their caregiving responsibility as one chosen by God. For it is through Him that we acquire the strength, love, and joy to perform this job, vocation, or calling.

Caregiving Basics

There are many issues and facets involved in caring for ones’ parents. The style and attitude of care, provided to a parent by a child, can vary considerably among the parent’s children. One child embraces caregiving with a total outpouring of energy and love while another could experience a total depletion of energy and experience profound frustration. Still others could feel profound resentment at having this important responsibility ‘dumped in
