About this ebook
After the end of World War II, most European musicians in the public venues have been profoundly influenced by their American counterparts. The Land of the Free was after all, the birthplace of the American Jazz. From its brilliant thirty-two-bar songs with great lyrics, to free improvisation, the popular music has taken over the world in a matter of one generation.
By the time the Seven Jazz Dwarfs came into existence on various European stages, the Free World was deeply infatuated with the music of Gershwin, Porter, Berlin, Ellington and other genial American composers. The birth of the Great American Songbook made it possible for many popular jazz tunes to spread, from Chicago to Warsaw and New Orleans to Paris.
Every talented European jazz instrumentalist emulated his idol, a famous American jazz player performing on the same kind of instrument, in a similar style. At the peak of the jazz music popularity, famous showbiz impresarios have brought the European Dwarfs and the American Giants together on the same stage. From the most popular international jazz festivals in Europe, to the annual Newport Jazz Festival in the USA, the audiences had delighted in the final musical result.
This collection of short stories is dedicated to all the European jazz Dwarfs, who made a name for themselves, under the very competitive and difficult showbiz conditions. Their final destination however was New York City, the most desired city in the world of jazz. For that American Dream to happen, the European jazz Dwarfs had to practice, practice and practice some more, on their way to the Carnegie Hall.
