INTRODUCTION
Hi, I'm T. Renee. While looking at my picture do I look normal
and whole
to you? Or should I use the word Complete
? God has a way of enabling us to do the impossible and overcome some of our most powerful fears. In my life, he did both. This book is dedicated to all of the Organ Donors throughout the world, as we have a Special Favor
with God, giving of ourselves unselfishly. The gift I gave was a Kidney.
In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I Thank you Lord for enabling me to be a vessel of your Love…

MACKIN' NERVE
And this is how it all started….
October 1974
I'm going to work again today not knowing if there will be overtime. It's a good thing I was able to find a babysitter for Marie, my two year old. I became pregnant at the age of sixteen and thought it could work. This relationship was the pits and I refuse to stay in it. This was the last time I would come to work with a black eye done by, let's call him 'asshole'.
I covered my eye as best that I could with make up but it still showed. The Telephone Company was good employment and I was lucky to get hired at the age of eighteen. I worked afternoons and didn't like those hours but it was a living. I had saved up enough money to get an apartment. He didn't even help pay any bills. Leave the bum
, my coworkers would say. You are too young for this shit
. My reply was I will
and I would in my own time.
One of them shot back, Your time might be too late!
I know they meant well and had more experience than I when it came to being stupid in love
.
Another coworker would tell me that she was in a relationship like mine and it wasn't a pleasant ending. I started to get an attitude about the whole conversation. I pulled the cords out on my switchboard like whips, disconnecting the call and answering the lights that lit up each call. Jam
! Plugging into the hole. Operator
, I would say, with no response from the customer on the other end. Operator
. A moment of silence and then I heard a voice. That voice
. He was making an emergency call. May I have your name
, I asked? Jim
he replied. I seemed to be instantly in another world and not with Barry White. The monotone was the same but not quite as deep. Damn. This aura was better than that.
Anyway, I put him on hold while I interrupted the person he was calling. I should have known, some woman! After connecting the two, I kept my eyes on the board where he lit up. When she hung up, I went back on the line. Are you done?
I asked so innocently, I could have won an Academy award. Yes and who is this
, he said in that sweet voice. This is the Operator
. I started a conversation like I had known this guy for days, even months. He asked where I was and I asked likewise. He was right down the street from the office where I worked. I was what the kids now call mackin
, another term for flirting. The lights on my board were lit up all over and I was arranging a date! Screw those lights! My coworker sitting next to me was looking at me like I was crazy, then she looked at the board, wondering what I was doing. At that moment, something wanted me to keep talking to this stranger. No, the Devil didn't make me do it. How about lunch
, I asked? Sure
was his reply. Friday at 5:30? Sounds good to me
, I said, probably too quickly. I was smiling as though he was sitting right there in front of me. My supervisor could have been monitoring my board as they do sometimes to make sure we are offering quality service
but I didn't care. I could be fired if she was listening. I'll know before the day is over.
