    Cupcake Dreams - B. K. Wiggins

    Chapter One

"S ummer, I do not want to be set up on a blind date by you or anyone else! This is crazy! How many times do I have to tell you, 'No'?" Laurel was adamant that she did not want her sister and especially her brother-in-law to set her up with anyone.

Why are you so dead set against this? Just give it a try and see what happens. And, if you don't ever want to see her again, you don't have to. Please, Summer desperately pleaded with her sister. Not because Summer thought her sister needed a date, but because she wanted Laurel to get out more and live a little.

Laurel hated when her sister begged and gave her those fake puppy dog eyes. She knew she couldn't resist when Summer did that and it's exactly why Summer did it.

It's just dinner, Summer plainly stated.

I don't think dinner is a good idea. It alludes to other things happening after dinner, as Laurel made the air quotes gesture with her fingers.

What about lunch? There was no way Summer was going to give up and she planned on throwing every possibility at Laurel that she could. She was not going to back down on this. It was too important to her, and she believed, vital to her sister’s mental health.

Lunch is too loud and rushed. Laurel again pushed back.

"Okay, then how about breakfast? You love breakfast. C'mon, give it a try for me?Please! Pretty please!" Summer gave her the best puppy dog eyes she could muster.

Okay, okay, okay! I will go out for breakfast and that's it!Laurel was so over listening to her sister plead with her that she finally gave in. Summer let out a squeal of delight and gave Laurel a huge hug! She had feeling that this was the first step in getting her sister back on track.

Laurel Issacs was a successful software engineer who had worked very hard to earn her current position at her company. Right out of college, she took a part-time internship while she waited tables at night. She then earned a full-time spot, and finally was making her way up the managerial track. She was well liked, easy-going, and self-motivated; a trait her boss loved. However, as well accomplished as she was, she severely lacked in the love department. And her sister, Summer knew it!

Summer was constantly trying to set Laurel up with her friends and husband's coworkers. Ever since their mother passed away, Laurel had thrown herself into work and didn't leave much time for anything else. Summer knew that this was just a self-defense mechanism and tried everything in her power to knock this wall down, even if it meant pestering her sister endlessly. This time it worked and she was so glad that it did!

As Summer reached for her phone, she said, Ok, I'm going to text Angela and see if she is free for breakfast.

When, asked Laurel not surprised that her sister was already making plans.

Tomorrow, of course! Summer cast the most brilliant smile she had at her sister.

Tomorrow?! Why so soon, I just agreed to this crazy idea? Laurel was totally caught off guard by the immediacy of her breakfast date. And, was really hoping she would have time to put off the inevitable and cancel at the last minute. But, Summer knew her all too well and wasn’t even going to give her the chance!

You know why, Laurel. It’s because you back out of everything and I’m not giving you a chance to do that this time.

Exactly what I was thinking. It’s as if she was reading my mind. Laurel was beside herself. She didn't realize that Summer was planning to set up breakfast so soon. Besides, it was the weekend and she wanted to just relax at home, not worry about going on a blind date! She let Summer know how unhappy she was at the thought by sighing, huffing, and puffing while Summer texted Angela. But, of course, Summer just ignored her as usual.

Oh good. Looks like you have a date for tomorrow morning! Summer couldn’t hide the absolute glee in her voice.

Great, Laurel said in her most sarcastic voice. "I’m really looking forward to it."

Honestly, Laurel, just give it a go and see what happens. You never know what’s going to happen and whom you will meet. Who knows, it could very well be your soul mate!

Summer still believed in soul mates and finding the one. She
