About this ebook

Roakan rose from his concealed cover, raised his sword above his head as more human warriors ran down the ramp of the warship to refortify their depleting forces. Roakan let out a mighty blood curdling battle cry and lowered his sword toward the human formation and as he did so he began jumping over the rubble that concealed him and led his warriors on a foot charge into the ranks of the human contingent. As he reached the first line of the human enemies Obaizen and his warriors were on their enemies rear flank as both collided with the wall of the human warriors at the front and rear flanks at almost the same instant. The humans by this time had drawn hand weapons and met the onslaught with as much fearlessness as the attacking Goathrunouk warriors. The two lines of warriors entangled in a clash of bodies, metal, and bone.
In the morning sunrise there was the glitter of flashing swords, shredded metal, and the spray of blood as warriors screamed their last lifes song. Soon, all that would be left would be the silent victors and the dying as the sun continued to rise as it had done so for millions of years before, unaffected in its designed purpose by the happenings of mere mortals.

    The Shining Luminance

    A New Generation – Prologue I

A long procession of white robed children five to eight years of age each holding a small ceremonial sword vertically, came toward the massive audience. Behind them came more children holding scrolls in one hand and tall candles in the other. All the children sang an ancient hymn as they came toward the front of the large stage that stood elevated upon nothing above the floor and heads of the massive and patient audience. In the audience were foreign dignitaries, leaders of allied worlds and high nobles of ancient species from the far reaches of the massive Empire’s galactic commune, standing in rows on the black granite floor of the ancient cathedral. Great warriors dressed in ceremonial battle armor faced the audience, their long burgundy capes flowing over their shoulders did not hide the great battle swords they each carried. Behind their battle helms fierce eyes stared out surveying the crowded cathedral. These were the old Maulichite guard, the last of the Royal Guard of the galactic Empire. They stood between the audience and the Royal Family.

The procession of children formed a semi circle behind a great ivory podium with a six foot space between the two rows. The children continued singing the ancient hymn, and from the center of the double rows of children the floor opened. An extremely beautiful woman of very high stature rose through the opening. She stood motionless while the children finished the ancient hymn then she approached the ivory pedestal. She stood high above the vast assembly of hundreds of thousands of listeners, dignitaries and high counselors as well as the Royal Empress and the Royal Family who sat in formation behind her. All eyes were fixed intently upon her.

She stood motionless in a flowing white robe with her long blond hair moving in the breeze. Around her head she wore a golden band embellished with three precious gems, one green, one red, and one blue. It was the headdress of the Royal family. A long silver cloak with a high swept back collar fell gracefully over her bare shoulders. Her arms were bare down to the royal blue bracers that covered her forearms. The bracers were decorated with gold engravings along their length. Although ancient, age had not withered her incredible beauty, under her robe her body displayed youth, power and vitality. Her youthful breasts moved as she took a deep breath. With a calm strong voice she uttered these words which amplified throughout the cathedral and broadcasted out to all the Empire’s planets and inhabitants:

My name is Sheena’xerxies. I am the youngest of five spawn of my father, our species’ first great Emperor, Emperor Messeronit’ia. I am the singer of the sacred hymns and the keeper of the sacred scrolls of knowledge and history. I am the appointed chronicler of our species’ great history. The five sacred keys of greater learning, I alone hold. It is my born duty to recount to all new generations of Cienti’a upon the dawning of each millennium of our time. The proud and glorious history of how we became the people we are. How we survived the great and terrible wars that chiseled and molded us into the strong, proud and great civilization that we have privilege to be now as we stand at the very height and glory of our existence. I recount these to you so that none will forget our great patriarchs who fought and sacrificed all for us. And to remember all that we lost to earn our right to exist and prosper as a great and powerful Empire that reigns as it does now, in peace and harmony. I recount this to the new generations and to the old so they too can carry on our bloodline through the coming eons to ensure that we shall never again fall prey to the great evil that almost ended our species… And how we as a species can never again forsake the law of the higher power we all know to exist inside us and all around us, and throughout all space and time. Our new generations must learn of this higher power and law. To learn to embrace it so as to never transgress against or to evoke its wrath upon us as it came once before. I will now open the sacred scrolls of history and recount this sacred knowledge to you, our new generation.

    The Giving Of Knowledge –

    Prologue II

M any eons ago, before new man spawned and made for himself gods and religion… Before new man could conceive or sustain life, there was a universe in which an ancient society prospered. This great society of adventurers, scientists and nobles collectively and peacefully searched for knowledge, and with this knowledge they gained great power and prosperity, in turn creating a great and powerful Empire of peace and harmony. The main objective of this ancient society was the betterment of its population.

For many eons all was well in the grand universal society they created. They accomplished marvelous things with their great knowledge, and created alliances with other powerful species and a great sharing of knowledge and good will endured. However, sadly, in time this once grand Empire began to erode from both greed and misuse of the great knowledge their society had garnered. Certain ones in the ancient Empire sought to collect the knowledge and power for themselves, keeping it from all in order to have dominance over the Empire and its subjects. In time the Empire split into two factions. One faction learned warfare, while the other sought political and commercial control of the Empire; both were intent on controlling the other and the entire galactic system.

Soon the tensions between both factions split the once grand Empire. The political and commercial faction opposed the newly created military faction and the scientific community was divided as the scientists’ loyalties warred against each other. Soon, the Empire eroded into a massive and bloody civil war. Institutions of learning became institutions of warfare, and the once-peaceful Empire was now at odds within itself. The grand and wonderful things they had learned were turned into evil inventions of warfare, with each side equally intent on controlling the empire. Weapons of mass destruction were invented and terrible, bloody battles ensued. Families and institutions turned against one another. Very quickly, the strong and proud empire became a broken and fragmented society without conscience or control. The Empire’s planetary systems were nearly destroyed, one by one, as new weapons turned the lush planets into sullen globes of ash and sulfur. Seeing a death toll that was beyond imagination, the remaining few left of the old Empire attempted peace talks which failed and only resulted in even more brutality and war, until eventually the war receded back to the home planet, which was by this time completely engulfed in chaos and savage bloodshed.

In one final attempt to win the war, the political and commercial faction unleashed a weapon of such great power, the surface and atmosphere of the home planet were completely destroyed. The inhabitants of the home planet and those around it were incinerated like tinder, leaving the Empire in complete ruins and all the other planets in the system uninhabitable. Sadly, all that the society had learned and gained was completely lost. All the collective knowledge, their great and terrible inventions for war, and the sum of all their existence were gone in a single instant. All, that is, except for one small planetary system, no bigger than a dot in the universe. The central planet, with cosmic particle rings and four orbiting moons, maintained an orbit around a small three star cluster. Positioned on the outer reaches of the once powerful Empire, the small planetary system was out of the jurisdictional regions of the Empire by thousands of light years, keeping them from the politics and ravages of war. The Empire left the inhabitants of this planet alone because their genetic makeup and political position on the war had not been seen as a threat.

The planet they inhabited had little to offer the war torn Empire, and could not contribute resources that the Empire desperately needed. Here the Sequerie were mostly scholars, scientists, and explorers, and were not interested in war or weapon technology. They existed together in peace and harmony. Somewhat like humans in appearance, these people had elongated facial features, taller and thinner bodies, dark eyes, and slits in the sides of their heads for ears. They kept to themselves and built up great libraries of the knowledge they had gained. Representing the enlightened learning they had acquired. Their cities were elevated above the surface of the lush green expanse of their small planet so as to not pollute the planet’s ecosystem. Amid all the strife and warfare, these people distanced themselves from their human kin of the old Empire.

Shortly before the destruction of the old Empire, a few humans from both factions saw the futility of the war. Sensing the disastrous outcome these few souls secretly escaped to their cousins’ distant planet, seeking asylum and anonymity. Due to the nature and beliefs of their cousins and the disastrous events at hand, their cousins granted them refuge. The two races lived together in peace and harmony for many eons, eventually mixing and forming a new species. Slowly and inevitably, original members of both species died out, leaving a new species in their place: a breed combining both the Human species and Sequerie species. The personalities and attributes of both races were equally fused into one; the intelligence and desire for higher learning of the Sequerie met the brave, unpredictable, passionate, and aggressive nature of the Humans. Physically they became gracefully tall and muscular, with the elongated and beautiful facial features of the original Sequerie. However, unlike the Sequerie the new species had hair and exhibited a wide range of eye colors. The once predictable, calm, and patient Sequerie became more restless and aggressive from their human side. They came to know powerful human emotions: hate, deep love, and empathy. Most notably, they became unpredictable. Thus, the Cienti’a was born.

This new race was ruled by an appointed high counsel who judged and led the new species through its infancy and the millennia of growth and learning that followed. Scientific advancements were made quickly though the focus was not in a military or political direction. In fact, all knowledge of warfare and weapon technology was banned, and learning or recording of this knowledge was forbidden. Strict and swift punishment was administered upon any that would take such endeavors upon themselves. All focus was on the advancement of knowledge of the universe around them and the improvement of themselves. Eventually this led to genetic research conducted in the Great Halls of Learning.

These Great Halls were situated on many outlying planets within their galactic system to study the life forms that inhabited them. With time and much research they found the sacred knowledge to genetically enhance the Cienti’an species so that sickness and life threatening disease were obliterated. Intelligence, physical attributes, beauty and even the life span of the race could be dramatically enhanced. Through the use of this genetic research the average life span of the Cienti’a rose to approximately one thousand Cienti’an years, or approximately twelve thousand Human years. In the midst of all this there arose a proud noble. He was a scholar, a brilliant scientist and a fearless adventurer. In his travels along the outer reaches of the Cienti’an galactic system, he found a small star surrounded by a great asteroid ring. One day while studying this star and its rings, Messeronit’ia found a tiny glittering, moon-like asteroid unlike any he had seen. When he went to study the asteroid he discovered that it was not hewn from galactic activity but from ancient hands of a long forgotten species. The perfectly round metallic globe had many interior rooms, corridors and great libraries. In one of these libraries he discovered the ancient scrolls of the lost Empire. Knowledge of this ancient Empire had now turned to fable and song and was no longer in memory and hardly in Cienti’an recorded history.

Stolen and hidden by the very ones who had fled to the Sequerie, these scrolls had survived the last battles of the ancient Empire. They had been written at the peak of the Empire’s power and glory. In these precious scrolls he discovered all the vast wealth of wisdom and great knowledge of the ancient Empire. Sensing the magnificence of the discovery Messeronit’ia built a home in one of the inner chambers and genetically encoded the entrance to the metallic moon so that only he could enter. In case of a dire, unpredictable circumstance he formed five keys with the genetic code encrypted in five sequences. To reveal the location of the moon and open the door the keys must be assembled and inserted in the proper order. Messeronit’ia then placed the five keys in very secret but oddly-obvious locations that could be quickly and easily accessed if needed. One final record and key was designed for him alone, and he kept it with him at all times. This one key was the master key and could open the moon by itself.

Messeronit’ia then erased the location of this moon from all galactic records and star charts. Only he had the galactic map to this metallic moon which he had neurologically embedded into his synapses. In time with great ingenuity and effort, he found a stable asteroid with a cavernous interior and tunnels that led to an inner cave large enough to hide the sphere. In this asteroid he wisely hid his treasured discovery and spent years at a time learning and experimenting. From this arduous study he grew to be wiser than the most genetically enhanced Cienti’an nobles or counselors. Ultimately his wisdom and great knowledge led the high counsel to declare him Grand Counselor All and later he became the first Emperor of the Cienti’a. Through his rule, peace and great prosperity came to all who were under his domination. Other great Empires aligned themselves with the Cienti’an Empire for protection and prosperity. Soon, the Emperor took a wife. She was from one of the most prominent families in the counsel, and was beautiful, highly refined, and genetically enhanced. From this union came three daughters and twin sons, although the sons were not alike in appearance or personality. The sons, Meanitel’e and Goathan’i’axerak, were both strong and beautiful but were very different. Meanitel’e was wise like his father, tall and powerful, but lacked a warrior’s nature. He grew to become a scholar, a scientist, and a great nobleman. The people loved him for his good nature and fairness when dealing with them.

Goathan’i’axerak, however, was unlike his family or any of his species. Legend says a great and evil spirit came to the Cienti’a and chose him to change the history of the great and proud race. Goathan’i’axerak was impressive in stature, strength, and beauty, extremely aggressive and intelligent. He demonstrated a strong interest in the ancient wars of the dead Empire. He was the first since the death of the old Empire to introduce the idea of an offensive, conquest style military, rather than a defensive and peace-keeping military. His father cast aside the notion without a second thought. Goathan’i’axerak viewed the rejection as evidence of his father’s favoritism of his brother, his own twin, and grew resentful. Eventually Goathan’i’axerak (Goathan) began to explore the universe with others who shared his rebellious nature, seeking to secure allies and gain knowledge of warfare. In time he found races that despised the great Cienti’an Empire and finally gained the knowledge he sought. He then began searching for the old human Empire. He then learned that at the end of the war the location of the Empire was erased from all galactic star maps. The Cienti’an believed that hiding the location would protect the citizens of new Empires from those wanting to learn warfare, and shield them from the effects of radiation from the weapons of war used during this ancient war. They also hoped to hide the war technology from those who would misuse it. So they stored it in the burned out hulls of battle cruisers and space stations.

Eventually however, through great effort Goathan’i’axerak found what was left of the ancient human Empire. Goathan and his followers made it their home and then began to study the remnants of the ancient warships and cities on the now-recovering planets of the old Empire. From his studies he gained the knowledge that he needed to secretly amass a massive galactic war fleet built simply from the remnants of battleships and weaponry left over from the Empire. They steadily salvaged materials from the old battlegrounds around the Empire’s ruined galactic system, a place void of activity and inhabitants for eons. Goathan’i’axerak turned these ancient, empty sectors into a learning ground of sorts and a home for his followers. He thus started his own evil Empire: the Goathrunouk Empire.

Meanwhile, following his father’s example, Meanitel’e had ascended to a great level of learning that garnered his father’s respect and trust. Messeronit’ia, now very old, called his son and three daughters to his side. In a private ceremony he gave each one a precious necklace, each different from the next and unique in color and brilliance. Upon giving these to his children he made each of them vow never to remove them as long as they lived. He entrusted the fifth necklace, which was originally forged for Goathan, to his youngest daughter for safekeeping. Messeronit’ia made her vow that only she would know of its hiding place until it could be revealed. It was never to be given to Goathan, as the family feared he had become evil and was a great danger to the Empire that his siblings would soon rule. Messeronit’ia entrusted the final necklace that he had carried for thousands of years to a trusted family friend, and best friend of Meanitel’e’s, Kera’fyrm.

Finally, Messeronit’ia passed on the knowledge of the location of the sacred scrolls to Meanitel’e, who vowed never to reveal them. From these scrolls Meanitel’e gained the knowledge and wisdom of the ancients, the very knowledge of his father. Eventually Messeronit’ia passed on into great old age and was unable to withstand the constant demands of the great Cienti’an Empire. He turned the Empire over to his trusted son Meanitel’e, who ascended to the throne as Emperor. Messeronit’ia retired into a stately life of celebration and the leisurely study of ancient scrolls.

Years later after learning of his brother’s rise to power, Goathan’i’axerak was overcome with great anger. He returned to his father, murdered him in cold blood and staged a military coup to seize control of the throne. With his success Goathan reigned in tyranny and brutality for over four hundred years. Meanitel’e used the knowledge that he had acquired from the ancient scrolls to design and build an adequate war fleet to fight his brother, resisting him with great courage and strength. Thus, after many years of peace, the once-powerful and peaceful Cienti’a Empire was entrenched in civil war. For four hundred years the brothers fought for control of the Empire. When Meanitel’e finally won the war he banished his brother and his minions out of the Empire’s sectors. Goathan’i’axerak returned to rebuilding his own Empire in the ancient regions of the galaxy, the old sectors of the lost, great Empire. He made the main planet of the ancient Empire his base, and from this wretched place of parched desert Goathan’i’axerak again rebuilt his powerful and evil Empire, focused wholly on military conquests. Under his rule his subjects rebuilt the entire fleet, transforming it into an even deadlier force. In the one hundred year conquest that followed he searched out other civilizations, conquering and forcing them into subjection. He took their best scientists and military commanders, stealing their technology and integrating them into his military. At last, he was able to launch a massive assault on the great and powerful Cienti’a.

Meanwhile, Meanitel’e set up a border between the Cienti’an Empire and the Goathrunouk Empire. Extreme efforts were made to build a great imperial war fleet to defend the Empire. The Cienti’a made advancements in technology to build better war weapons to ward off the constant attacks sent by Goathan’i’axerak. Meanitel’e studied the ancient scrolls deeper than his father had ventured, learning of battle formations, tactics and strategies. He incorporated them into his military. He then built huge galactic shipyards to build and maintain the war fleet. Along with the scientists he forged weapons and machines that would keep the home planet system and their allies safe. Soon a great war was to begin. It was at this time that my brother, our second Emperor, began the fight for survival that would make us all into what we are this day. I remember these times well as if they were just yesterday, even though they were two thousand years ago. I recount to you this chronicle from my viewpoint as a survivor of this great but terrible time in our history that forged our species and society into what it is today…

    CHAPTER I

    The Rúmil Mission

A tall and strong Cienti’a stood motionless in front of the transparent energy shield. Pale green eyes stared out across the alien landscape through the yellow mist that rose up through the marsh on the newly liberated Auto’aminian planet, Auto’aminian Primus. Meanitel’e, of high noble breed, was the commander-in-chief of the elite Cienti’an galactic war fleet that protected the proud and powerful Cienti’an species. He was lost deep in thought as a smaller, more refined Cienti’a silently approached.

Lord Meanitel’e members of the high nobility have arrived from Auto’aminian third planet, and will soon assemble in the oval room. They have requested your presence, she said as she gracefully bowed in respect of him and his great authority.

Pulled abruptly from his meditation over their recent victory and advancement through this sector of uncharted galactic frontier, Lord Meanitel’e quickly turned to face the one addressing him. His pale green eyes took in the beautiful female warrior kneeling before him. A small smile appeared on his handsome face as he studied her. She was of good gene selection, very well bred and was raised, educated and trained in the elite Cienti’an military academies. At a relatively young age C’xeraxies was already in a very high and envious position as Lord Meanitel’e’s personal attendant. She assisted him in his unwelcome mission that was projected to last one hundred years and cost the Cienti’an many resources and the lives of countless highbred Cienti’a. The plan was not Lord Meanitel’e’s invention but that of the high counsel and nobility class: The ruling class of the Cienti’an species. Lord Meanitel’e regretted his mission and regarded the plan to regain peace and harmony in the Cienti’an Empire as too huge of
