Hello, my lovely Heart.
Heart stiffened but refused to respond. He jabbed the key into the store's front door, scowling at the flashy sign on the window. Sleeping Beauty Curse Broken Here! was written in wide, blocky letters that glittered and glistened in the sunlight. There were similarly flashy signs in the windows, proclaiming that the shop was the best curse breaking shop there was, that they'd cured the Snow Queen's poison and made protection amulets.
Heart, lovely, my soul,
Ace continued, unperturbed by Heart's silence. Ace draped an arm over Heart's shoulders, leaning in close. Heart tried to shake him off, but Ace was a solid brick house of a man, and there was no moving him when he wanted to be somewhere. Usually somewhere was draped all over Heart or in Heart's general vicinity, much to Heart's displeasure.
Ace smelled of the woods this morning, and that was unusual. Heart wasn't going to ask, though; asking Ace anything only seemed to encourage him.
Go away,
Heart said. The lock, finicky as always, finally clicked open. Heart pocketed the key and opened the door, ducking out from under Ace's arm and into the shop. I have to open. I don't need you hanging around.
You wound me,
Ace said. He followed Heart into the shop, grinning as he took in the flashy interior. Heart hated it, but it sold the stupid protection charms that kept the shop running between the actual work of curse breaking. Curses were hard to cast, which meant it was often
