    FALL OF THE STARS

    By: Ronnie Crawford

    The Beginning of Tommy Walker

It was thundering and snowing in April, April sixteenth to be exact. Never in the history of weather had this happened before (to my knowledge anyway). I was brought into this hell on earth and my mother did what she had to do to raise me. I’d never seen a male figure around the house, so I knew nothing of having a father, my mother and I moved around a lot and I guess that it was around the age of three that I knew I was special. My first realization was on a field trip with my class to the butterfly museum. All of the kids were amazed at the variety of colors and patterns of the butterflies flying over us when it happened, I extended my arm out and the butterflies paused in midair, suddenly, all of the amazed faces fell into sadness. I gently lowered my arm, the butterflies went back to flying around, and the teachers and parents were looking at me hysterically, as if I were a freak or something. I really don’t know what made me do it, it just happened and eventually the news of that incident died down. One year later a similar incident occurred when I and nineteen other students were coming from school, a teenage boy was standing in the middle of the road when the swerving of bus got everyone’s attention. When the bus came finally came to a stop without hitting the boy the bus driver got off and went to the teenage asking whom he was and why he was just standing in the middle of the street. The boy didn’t answer and the bus driver got nervous by the lack of response and called the local authorities. After the bus driver finished making the call, he tried again to get the boy out the street with no luck, a couple of citizens nearby stepped in to lend a hand. Five minutes later the police finally arrived two male officers stepped out the squad car. I stood up and got off the bus to see if I could help, only to have them yell little boy get your ass back on the bus at me. I couldn’t though something was pulling me closer to this boy he turned and started to walk toward me. One of the officers tried to grab him, but he just turned and looked at him and in a weird voice said the boy now while pointing at me. The police officer held on when suddenly he went flying feet away from the teenager as though someone threw him. I ran to the squad car and placed both hands on the trunk the hood flew off and knocked the boy to the ground in an instant the cops had him in handcuffs and we were all heading to the police station to make a full report of the unusual events. One of the police officers gave my mother a call; she came as fast as she could to the station try to find out what had happened. The police were asking how it was possible for a four year old to take the hood off a car and knock someone out. My mother just looked at me weird as if she knew something the rest of us did not. Meanwhile the officers were trying to interrogate the teenager but as before, he sat silently. An officer asked him where he knew the boy from while pointing at me where I was standing next to my mother. We don’t know this kid have never seen him in my life she calls out to the officer. The boy starts to speak and all eyes turn to him. He will save you he says, a fat officer that looks very at ill at ease speaks up save whom? All of you he answers. All of who ask an officer who seems to be losing patience obviously thinking it’s just a prank being played by a delinquent teen. The entire human race the boy whispers before collapsing on the floor. The room flew into a panic. One of the officers checks the boy and looks up with a grim expression he has no pulse he is dead. My mother looks at me and says his job is done. Everyone in the room looks at her in shock because it seemed that somehow my mother knew what was going on.
