Chapter 1
THE JOURNEY BEGINS
37825.jpgIt is early on a Sunday morning in April 2011 as I start to write this story for you. The previous evening, we had dinner with some friends to celebrate a birthday in the group. I went light with dinner and had a delicious roasted-vegetable sandwich, fries, ketchup, hot sauce, and some water. It was really not so bad, but I did top it all off with a huge portion of a rather sweet and flavorful bread pudding.
After returning from the restaurant, we went immediately to prepare for bed and get some sleep. I checked my blood sugar just before crawling in, and it was at a healthy 159 mg/dl, still within an hour after downing all that sugar. Upon rising this morning, the reading is an exciting 98 mg/dl.
My story does not start there. I must take you back about two years earlier---just a little before my grandson was born.
In June 2009, I decided on a whim to see my doctor for a checkup. It was almost three years since I had seen any doctor, and past the age of fifty, that's not a good practice. When Dr. Amin. asked me why I came to see him, I said, I have a little time on my hands and thought I should stop in to verify how healthy I am.
My cocky response tells you my state of mind. I was feeling great. I had lots of energy and enthusiasm. I was highly productive in my career as a traveling educational consultant and actively involved in weekend and evening activities.
I had good reason, beyond just feeling great, to expect an excellent report from Dr. Amin. I always thought I was the healthiest guy anywhere.

Chapter 2
STRANGE ENCOUNTERS AND A FEW GOOD, BAD HABITS
37831.jpgWhy would I think I was so healthy? My first life-changing experience with natural healing occurred in 1977. A patch of hair just behind my right ear fell out within weeks of our wedding. (I really wanted to blame my new bride for this, but I found no basis to do so.) Many doctors named my condition alopecia, but they provided no solution to restore my
