Michael McGill Jr.

Michael McGill, Jr. is a renowned, award-winning transformational speaker, life coach & strategist, and self-empowerment guru that aims to empower people to transform their own lives- from the inside out- leaving them enriched, encouraged and empowered! As an avid scholar and educator, McGill loves to inspire- especially young people. With a background in Social Psychology, Family Development, and Urban Education, McGill has experience as an inner-city educator and counselor working with troubled youth; experience as an appointed juvenile court magistrate judge helping first-time juvenile offenders; and McGill has also been appointed by the mayor of Kansas City, Mo. to be a health commissioner to work with families (Women, Infants & Children area). Of all the accolades, Michael's deepest desire is to help transform a generation and light the world- one candle at a time. In order to do this effectively, Michael draws upon his very own experiences of dysfunctional success, depression, neglect, rejection, family dysfunction, and many other challenges to enrich others that they, too, can turn stumbling blocks into stepping stones! While Michael’s methods are practical and universal, he uses his story to inspire audiences- young and seasoned- to break barriers, ponder on self-reflection, take limits off of their lives, and he empowers them to heal and create the life they desire and deserve! You can also check him out on the local CBS news affiliate as a life coach and strategist, dishing out daily doses of motivation, encouragement, and advice. Michael currently resides in the Kansas City Metropolitan area and when he's not home, he’s probably somewhere talking or mentoring the young people he sees as his “children”. You can also catch him traveling across the country to inspire, motivate and transform audiences of all genres to tap into their potential, maximize their gifts, and Live ONpurpose- the new normal! Who knows, you just may see Michael at an event near you!

    About the Author

    Dedication

I dedicate this book to Cerebrum. The cerebrum (cortex) is the largest part of the human brain, associated with higher brain function, such as thought and action. Not only are you involved in determining intelligence, but Cerebrum, you hold the area that determines personality, thinking, and how one perceives. It’s my hope that you will be forever transformed in your reasoning, resulting in better thoughts about the human that encompasses you, as well as better actions.

I dedicate this book to Frontal Lobe; the area associated with reasoning and planning.

I dedicate this book to both Right Hemisphere (associated with creativity) and Left Hemisphere (associated with logic abilities).

I dedicate this book to Hippocampus. You are the part of the brain that is important for learning and memory. It is my hope and prayer that the treasured one who reads this book learns new information to apply in their daily life. I hope the memory of past hurts, pains, and the residue of past mistakes and choices are now revamped to be thought of as lessons to help educate, encourage, empower, and enrich your life. I also hope the learning that YOU’RE worth more than gold transcends any experience and memory; be made new in your thinking and refreshed in your ways.

This book is most definitely dedicated to Amygdala—a part of the brain that is located in the temporal lobe; involved in memory, emotion, and fear. Amygdala, you play an important role in motivation and emotional behavior. It’s my declaration that you be transformed, yet inspired; healthy fear be minimized, yet still present; memory no longer hold on to anger, abuse, neglect or past hurts but hold on to the newness that you are as you read and apply what you’ve learned!

I most certainly dedicate this book to you, the reader. I most certainly pray that this book closes impoverished chapters in your life and opens up wells of living water for a lifetime to come. To the individuals who shared their life with me and allowed me to use it to help empower other people, you’ve taken enormous steps to restore and replace pieces of a broken foundation. I thank you for being the repairers of the breach and the restorers of the streets!

    Get Ready . . . Get Set . . . GROW!

    Heartfelt Gratitude

Thank you, GOD for Your wisdom and divine connections in creating, drafting and publishing this book. I really believe that the best is yet to come! I thank You for believing so much in me that You created me with a hope and a future and I’m going to fulfill it. I have now grasped the fact that I’ve been fearfully and wonderfully made; I want to make You smile. Let my life’s song sing to You.

To my Mother, Shanna Levingston: I’m so proud of the woman you have become and the woman you are becoming! It’s such an honor to be your child and see you grow right before my eyes. I remember days when we just didn’t get along! Now, I look forward to our daily talks and moments when we just crack up at the most simplistic things! Yes, we are peculiar and yes, you still do hit a nerve here and there (I’m sure I do, too!) but I love you to the moon and back! Although I may not have agreed with every decision that you made in my raising, know that I am thankful for everything and I’m even the more thankful that it is all working out for our good—even at this very moment. I’m extremely grateful for the many lessons you’ve taught me and how we’ve worked through so many challenges together. For every sacrifice, for the moment that we moved so that I could have a better education, for the times when you just listened—I give you a salute of THANKS. More importantly, for learning to hear my truth as the way I see it and for taking responsibility for your choices, I humbly honor you. The journey may not have been easy, but it has surely been worth it!

To my beloved family: My granny (Barbara Williams) I’m so thankful for the moment that you lifted me up to the Lord and declared that He take over my life and use me. While I was only a few weeks old at the time, your wisdom was immeasurable. I’m thankful that you and Papa (John L. Williams) helped in my raising. For always feeding me, teaching me and just loving me, I am grateful. As I learn of your challenges, I realize that you and your ancestors were painting the picture for my success. Hearing the struggles that you’ve faced, knowing that you worked 13+ hours a day—going early mornings to clean houses, then, going to work at a hospital to make another living—I can only sit and pause. Being a primary caregiver for your family, you surely planted seeds that I’m now able to harvest. As I sit and ponder, I’m humbled and grateful for the seeds that were planted in my life! I sit in amazement as I stumble over the increase and interest of my ancestors’ investments. Wow. Thank you. I’ll continue to paint the picture. Papa, although you may have passed away from this life, I think about you constantly. From your lessons of taking me to General Motors with you, to you showing me how to properly cut the grass, you’ve taught me so much! You’ve shown me how a real man works and what the proper work ethic should be. You would always declare: I love you, I love you, I love you and, although you are gone, please know that I love you and miss you daily. I’m hopeful you’re here in some way celebrating with me.

To my beloved family: Tamea J. Levingston (the BEST sister in the entire world who is extremely gifted and intelligent), Stephanie Bowman, Carl Bowman, Carleshia Bowman-Walker and Kenya Henderson, thank you for your support and for the many debates that we’ve had. It’s my hope that we are all enriched by them! To Stephanie, I’m grateful that you habitually remind me to never take no for an answer and always be a thorn! While it makes me laugh when you say it, this lesson has helped me accomplish a lot. To anyone that was not listed, I thank you for enriching my life!

To my beloved god-parents: William and Ann Parker. Wow! You both have been such a blessing to my life and you all enrich me in more ways than I can count. Thank you, William, for teaching me about wisdom and showing me how to tie a tie! Thank you, Ann, for reminding me OFTEN that I am a prince, thus, I must stay encouraged and great things are in store for me! I love you all greatly!

To my paternal grandmother, Mikki Price: I’m thankful for the jewels that you’ve passed down to me and for the enriching conversations that have made me a stronger, more thought-provoking individual. As our relationship grows, I anticipate having new insights and lessons on life. To Michael McGill, Sr., I send out a grateful thank you for the many, many lessons that you’ve taught me.

My wonderful friend and mentor, Dr. Paula Rodgers: You’ve been such an inspiration to me and every time we speak, I’m humbled by your words and belief in me. From sharing your office with me when I didn’t have one (insider) to reminding me when I feel low that I’m filled with so much promise, I love you to pieces. You are always encouraging and continually validate the gifts that I possess. I’m hopeful that you will never forget the great woman that you are and how valuable you’ve been to me and to this world. Continue to light the world—one candle at a time! You’re worth more than gold!

Another great mentor, Valencia Broadus, Esq.: Thank you for ALL of your support and belief in me. You gave me my first job when I was barley a teenager at your law firm as an intern. From that moment, you and I knew that I would take this world by surprise! Continue to teach, for the world needs your wisdom, truth and light.

To the young men that I mentor and one of my best teachers: Prince Leroy Joseph Quinn—you have surely been one of my best teachers to date and, without even knowing it, you’ve aided in the healing of the child in me. You are a phenomenal young man of integrity and I’m honored that you have allowed me to be a part of your life and teach you what I’ve learned. Remember, you are GREAT, thus, I expect great things from you! You are royal! You are scholarly and
