DARK PLAGUE: SPECIAL EDITION
We’re outside of Earth as it rotates with satellites passing by, and as they pass by, we begin picking up communications of what seems to be news feed from around the world.
(NEWSWOMAN)
Are you telling us that the rumors of server side effects were over exaggerated?
(MAN)
I’m saying there are no side effects. We’ve been doing studies since 2001 with rates and the outlook has always been good.
(NEWSWOMAN)
Well the pictures say otherwise. Rat bodies showing signs of serious mutations. Looking almost, zombified. How do you . .
(MAN)
Look, I don’t know where you’re getting your materials or who’s your source. What I am telling you is that the CDC has been watching over us for the past 20 years along with the Secretary of Defense because of the technology being used.
Scene changes to the UN with Secretary of Defense Ted Jelanski at the podium speaking to the leaders of other nations.
(JELANSKI)
I guarantee to all of you, we are not secretly building a weapon of mass destruction. Top officials of your nations have been monitoring us for almost a quarter of a century.
There’s muttering among the crowd with disbelief.
(JELANSKI)
This was not only a sign of good faith between our people, but insurance that this medical breakthrough happens, so that the obesity in our nations is handled without us giving up the things we love. Why not have our cake and eat it too? With the final results and the CDC on board, Gene-tech Industry will be shipping out millions of cases within weeks.
The scene changes to stores all over the world with trucks pulling up and silver cases are being unloaded to the pharmacy departments for sell. Hospitals are seeing huge numbers of patients swarming through the doors not because sickness or injuries, but of over weight people who wants what’s being said as a gift from heaven.
(FATHER)
Come on! Let us through! You people aren’t even sick.
Officers already prepared for this starts coming in to force the one massive line into single lines so that the man and his sick daughter can get through. One of the nurses behind the protective glass is carrying over a tray of the liquid cure for those with prescriptions. She stumbles and drops one of the tubes, which shatters on the floor, letting out the material.
(NURSE#1)
SHIT!
(OVERWEIGHT PATIENT)
That better not be mine!
(NURSE#2)
Don’t worry. They’re not active outside the body. Go ahead and clean it up. I’m surprised you’re even here as sick as you are.
(NURSE#1)
Another day, another dollar.
The nurse picks up the shattered tube and cuts herself and sucks on her bleeding finger as an ant crawls along the floor and stops in front of the spill. A rolled up news paper comes down on it hard, leaving the smashed ant soaking lifeless.
(DOCTOR)
This place is supposed to be cleaned. Call Peter. Have him check this floor for vermin.
(NURSE#2)
Yes, doctor.
The nurse comes back with paper towels and a bottle full of some type of sanitizer. Unknown to her, the smashed ant was gone.
(PETER)
Hey, you guys have a clean up?
(NURSE#1)
No. We just need this floor checked for bugs.
(PETER)
No problem.
(NURSE#2)
Oh, can you take that can of trash with you?
(PETER)
Sure.
Peter takes the small bag of trash that had the rolled up newspaper partially covered in the metallic liquid out of the bin and ties it up tightly. Out the back door of the hospital comes Peter tossing the bag of trash into the dumpster. A cat is startled and jumps out.
(PETER)
Stupid cat.
The door closes and the cat comes out of hiding to jump back into the dumpster, scavenging for food. We get closer to the dumpster as we begin hearing a voice.
(ALEX)
We don’t know how it started, where it started, or when. We just know that a single moment in time marked the beginning of a possible end for humanity.
We’re now journeying within the human body seeing organs and blood cells traveling throughout. There’s a dark orchestral music playing. Now dark blobs with metallic spikes appear from below chasing after the blood cells and the music gets darker and faster. Incomes the white blood cells. Unsuccessful, the white blood cells are over taken and the tissue within the body continues to decay along with the organs. We continue to pass on to view a decaying heart and through the neck, finally up to eyes. We go through the eyes, panning outwards to see the face of a dead body with the title Dark Plague
fading onto the screen with rain starting to come down.
SOUND OF LIGHTNING STRIKES…
Now going across the ocean, we see the sun setting in the distance with thick grey clouds continuing to form, indicating that a storm is on its way. Making its way through the still waters is an armored boat with a figure flickering switches up and down. He’s turning dials with one hand and monitoring a compass with the other. The man cranks forward the throttle and speeds towards a small island barely visible in the far distance.
The boat is parked and the man wearing dark clothing drops a duffle bag to the ground. He then climbs down the ladder, picks up the bag and heads into the city. Everything goes black.
