    Theresa Holliday Benedict recently retired after a forty-five-year career in nursing. She spent most of this time as a surgical nurse, including not only hands-on experience but also twenty-seven years in leadership as a director of surgical services. Over this time, Theresa had the honor and privilege to work with a diverse group of people and to serve as their mentor, leader, and friend. Through many interactions, she was able to observe the importance of recognizing the individual and connecting on a personal as well as professional level. Lessons learned were invaluable. Through the years, Theresa has shared her insights with family and friends without realizing how influential some of these insights have been. She feels it is now time to share them with a broader audience. Theresa has a daughter who has blessed her with a wonderful son-in-law and three perfect grandchildren! Her granddaughter is the inspiration for this book through her artwork and understanding. Theresa lives on the east coast of Florida with Fred, her husband of forty-five years. They share their home with Scout, their golden retriever, Gandalf, an African grey parrot, and three cats: China, Sachiko, and Seneca.
