Layla Salim

Hi, my name is Layla Salim, I am 17 years old and I live in London England. I am currently studying in a school at a 6th form in the north of London and have hopes of going to university to study English and Creative writing. I have been fortunate in many aspects not only am I surrounded by a network of amazing and invitational set of people, my friends and family are the most spectacular people and without them I would not be half the person I am to day. In my writing I often use my personal experiences and situations as starting points and soon I fi nd my self with paragraphs and pages. I started writing as a way to escape the hard times I created a range of characters from those who were going through exactly what I was going through to characters who were the complicate fantasy, and this I fi nd is the miracle of writing being able to create a world and pour out your fantasy onto that piece of paper; so that when someone else comes and reads your work, they feel inspired and enlightened. I often choose to write about topics that I feel are serious and important, and so I try to incorporate it into a style that is not too harsh so that young people can read the book, understand and not feel threatened. My ultimate goal I would say is to inspire other people, and help them inspire others. I hope you all enjoy it. Thank you

    Dedications

Everyday we meet new people, some will come into your life then leave it. Some are there to stay while others are there to make a difference.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank some people who have made a difference in my life.

Thank you to Miss P. Who always pushed me and never let me quit, who saw in me a talent that she withdrew from nothing. In thinking about what I would say to I stand truly speechless, thank you. I could never thank you enough or ever repay you for that light that shone in me.

Thank you to Mrs. L. Who encouraged me to take a step towards the future. You let me believe that I was capable, ready, that I too could make it.

To Robyn who I could NEVER repay, who never left my side, who saw me through my worst and never failed to be there. You helped me become a better person and watched me grow into the person I am today; Robyn who found me glaring into the darkness of the ground, and showed me the light that shines in the sky. Thank you.

To Tamara whose individual encouragement allowed me to flourish and shine, who never let me doubt myself and never let me settle for anything but the best. At the time of defeat and surrender it was you who pushed me back onto the frontline and showed me that I can go on, I am strong. I am everything and more. Thank you.

To candy who can always make me smile, who knows exactly what to say, and exactly what to do, candy in so many ways my back bone and the anchor to our friendship; candy your charm and ever able ways to make us laugh has gotten me through endless days. It is your very presence that is fulfilling and calming. Thank you.

To Zhane who in the short time we have come to know each other, you have made such a difference to all our lives; you have taught me to be that much more confident to love myself and love what I am. Your strong character that just shines. Thank you

Finally I would like to thank everyone who came, touched and left a handprint on my heart.

    Prologue

If a person held a gun to your head, what would you do?

You may scream; attempt to run away or even try and talk your way out of the situation; whatever it is you are doing your brain will have raced, searching for an escape, a combination of movements that will bring you to safety, understanding and a final sanctuary.
