I want to thank the young man that helped me write this book. It took us a month or two to write this many two am – four am mornings. There were times when I wanted to give up on this project but he stayed on me. So, BIG thanks to Author J. Brinkley!
A special dedication to my ancestors. Thank you for leading and guiding me to greatness!
INTRODUCTION
I started writing in my diary at a very young age. I was a fat little girl dealing with depression, with no voice, so I would write it all out. Up until my early teens I wrote almost everyday about everything; from losing my virginity to my first-time smoking weed. I called my mother a bitch
in every chapter and I had conflicted feelings about my father but yet praised everything he did. I never thought that I would write and self publish my first novel, at this point in my life. I also never thought that by the time I reached legal adult age, I would have lost BOTH parents and become a somewhat orphan.
I have been asked for years to write a book but I always felt that I was too young or that I wasn’t important enough and the truth is I still feel the same way. After years of mentoring hundreds of young women and men for FREE, I decided to take a few months and write it all out. I’ve moved around for years I no longer had my diaries so I had to go back in time to conjure up the thoughts and feelings. During that process I stopped writing and fell into a deep depression. I soon realized that one of my super powers has been the ability to forget and forgive the horrible situations I’ve endured.
Writing this novel made me face many demons and in essence was theraputic for my soul. In this book I begin with the life of my parents, after all they are the reason of my existence, but more importantly children seem to reap the karma from their parents wrong doings. I talk about being molested by a family member. Two out of five children deal with the issue. I’ve written about my drug addiction, it’s been said that three out of five people are either prescription drug addicts. Such as IE adderall, xanax, or ambien. Others are weed heads or cocaine addicts that just happen to still be able to function and be successful.
If you know me personally then you know that my life has been like a lifetime movie. More bad, than good. So much so, that I used to question my existence. I even attempted to commit suicide, but the faith and strength that I witnessed from my parents wouldn’t allow me to pull the trigger of my gun.
As far as the family member that I spoke about, I vow to never mention their name. What’s done is done, I forgive you and pray that you ask God for forgiveness as well.
To the others that names are mentioned it is what it is. Initially changed your names and then realized that I was doing nice things for people who don’t deserve it. Am I a saint? Absolutely not, but I’m a realist and have always been transparent. I’m not a snitch
or liar
, nor did I write this for fame. I wrote this book to help save a life, someone’s business, and to relive myself of all the toxic things of my past.
In fact after this book I will no longer think about or speak of anything in detail about the contents of this novel so don’t ask! Just read... and take notes. Laugh with me, cry with me, learn from me and PRAY with me! Thank you for supporting me I hope this inspires you to take action and control of your life! WRITE it out! Switch it up! Change the game and think outside the box be like Nike and JUST DO IT!!
LOVE,
Dana Cody
CHAPTER ONE
~ THE FAMILY TREE ~
~ Edmond Cody is My Dad ~
––––––––
Edmond H. Cody was intelligent, tall, and handsome with slanted eyes like an Asian. He inherited his good looks from his father and demanded to be called either Ed or Cody, never his full name. He knew his biological dad, but never had the opportunity to build a real relationship with him. Ed never knew the real reason why his parents separated. He often questioned his mom, my grandma, Lula, if his dad ever loved him? Her reply was always, He's not around now is he?
This didn't make him feel any better so he would ask other family members about his father. He was told that his father and mother weren't made for each other they both drank and would become abusive towards each other. It was also said that Grandma Lula had an affair and when Ed’s father found out he murdered the guy, and both Ed and Lula fled to another state. Hearing this was a lot of information, but it did give him a little closure. Ed was brought up in a biracial home and he learned to accept his jewish step-dad Jerry as his father. Although Jerry was not his real father, he treated him as his own son. Jerry taught Ed everything he knew about business. Ed’s life was far from perfect though. He got punished for making the wrong decisions like every kid growing up. He felt like he was living in hell at times. This only made him more angry and rebellious towards his parents. He started sneaking out the window at night to hang with the older guys from the block. They embraced him with open arms. This was when he got introduced to drugs, liquor and money. He was fascinated with all the flashy clothes and fancy cars that they had. He started plotting on how he was going to get all the materialistic things the big homies from the block had. He stayed around them until he became a small time pusher.
When Ed turned seventeen he met a beautiful girl named Deborah who was from the country, like him. She was a go-go dancer and the hottest woman on the block. Deborah and Ed hit it off instantly and had a Bonnie and Clyde relationship. They graduated from Jackson Senior high school. Shortly afterwards they found out that Deborah was pregnant. This was Ed's third child from the third woman by the time he was nineteen. He enrolled himself into college to further his education. He found
