About this ebook
There are places that turn up in literature or in film—mystical and legendary places whose names may be familiar but about which we know little. We nod knowingly at the reference, but are often left wondering about places such as Atlantis, the lost land overwhelmed by the sea, or El Dorado, the fabulous city that vanished somewhere in the South American jungles. Other names are more evocative—Mount Olympus, the Garden of Eden, the mystic Isle of Avalon, and Davy Jones' Locker.
But did such places actually exist and if so, where were they, and what really happened? What are the traditions and legends associated with them? In the fascinating new book, Lost Lands, Forgotten Realms, historian Dr. Bob Curran sets out to find the answers by journeying to the far-flung corners of the world and to the outer reaches of human imagination.
Bob Curran
No one is sure where Bob Curran, PhD, comes from. Tradition says that one moment he wasn’t there and the next moment he was in County Down. He has, however, held various jobs— including gravedigger, hospital porter, civil servant, and teacher—has studied history and education at the New University of Ulster, and has received a PhD in Educational Social Psychology. Bob has a strong interest in local history and folklore, and has both written and lectured on these subjects; he is a frequent contributor to radio, and has appeared on television co-presenting programs on heritage and history. It is said that Bob currently lives somewhere in north Antrim, with his teacher wife and two small children; but it is difficult to be sure, as he is seen only “between the lights” (at twilight), and then only by a fortunate few.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Lost Lands, Forgotten RealmsSunken Continents, Vanished Cities, and the Kingdoms that History Misplacedby Dr. Bob CurranIllustrated by Ian Daniels Reviewing this 271 page travel log to mythical and ancient lands was a real trip, I also enjoyed the exciting legends of people places and things unmasked and alive right in front of me. This author has a valuable gift of being able to put the words down in such a way that I could truly feel like i was there. The format was simple and I especially liked that the info was presented in short sections so that my experience wasn't overwhelming or diluted. I found the illustrations to be an extra bonus because they helped to illuminate the stories even more. I would recommend this great work to those interested in folklore and tradition with a metaphysical twist. Thanks, for the enlightened tour. Love & Light, Riki Frahmann
