    ANDY WARHOL

    Andrew Warhola famously known as Andy Warhol was born on 6th August 1928. He was a renowned American actor, director and producer. His contribution towards the visual art movement known as pop art is admired by everyone. Many of his work exhibit the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture, and advertising that flourished by the 1960s.

    He was born in the neighborhood of Oakland in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His parents were Slovakian immigrants. His father Ondrej Warhola was a construction worker and his mother Julia Warhola were an embroiderer. At the age of 8 Warhol suffered from Chorea, a disease which affected the nerves and he was bed ridden for several months. During these months his mother gave him a drawing book so that he can develop his artistic skills. Drawing soon became his childhood pastime and his mother gifted him a camera when he was 9 years old. He did his schooling from Holmes Elementary School and also took free classes in art offered at the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh. The death of his father due to jaundice came as a shock to him and he was very upset that he didn’t even attend the funeral ceremony, and he hid under his bed throughout the wake. His father had already recognized his artistic talents, and he dedicated all his savings for Warhol’s college education. To study pictorial design, he joined the Carnegie Institute for Technology in 1945. After completing his graduation degree in fine arts in 1949, Warhol moved to New York to pursue a career as a commercial artist. In September he got a job in the Glamour magazine and became a successful artist of the 1950s. For his whimsical style and usage of his own blotted line technique and rubber stamps to create his drawings he won frequent awards. He introduced the concept
