About this ebook
Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky (29 July 1817- 2 May 1900) was a Russian marine painter of Armenian descent. Much of his work is taken by so-called marines, in which he was able to maintain his own style despite the satisfaction of the prevailing fashion. This was especially evident in the virtuoso design of light and shadow, such as light effects of water.
Throughout his long time occupation, the artist painted aproximatly six thousand paintings, even though to him was credited to over twenty thousand. Most of his masterpieces depicted the sea. Aivazovsky infrequently worked on landscapes without sea, and his portrait’s paintings were a small component of his artwork. He never painted his sea views from direct watching of nature, but as rule in memory and missing from the seashore. His artistic memory for details and images was famous. Aivazovsky was able to reconstruct what he saw in a very short time, without even making preliminary sketches. The realism of his paintings amazed his contemporaries and above all his ability to convey the effect of moving water and the reflection of light.
