Sara’s fingers were slipping from the rocks and she moved sideways along the edge trying to find bigger rock protrusions or cracks to cling on to, trying to avoid the slippery sand.

Nearby, little rocks grinded against each other under the weight of heavy feet.

Sara grabbed onto the closest rock protrusion and froze as the sound of the footsteps got closer.

    She waited, holding her breath.

    The footsteps stopped.

Both sides listening hard, all their senses turned to the max.

And then it happened. Sara felt the rock in her hand crack and break away from the rock wall, gravity pulling her body down towards the edge, and there was only one thing left she could do — choose between a bullet or a sixty-foot fall on hard spiky rocks.

Sara chose the bullet and dropped the rock from her hand and immediately pulled her body up on the next best rock protrusion that also broke under her weight, and then the next rock and the next, until she pulled herself up and over the rock wall that protected her and onto a flat surface — safe from the fall, but out in the open — exposed to the
