About this ebook

Are you ready to handle a natural disaster when it occurs?

If not, you should read this book !

This book is the second of a series helping you be prepared to be able to take care of yourself or family during an emergency whether it last for less than a day, several days or even longer.  Having spent several years as a volunteer first responder with Emergency Management where I lived, I saw first hand how people were affected when natural disasters such as a tornado, ice storm, or a flood to name just a few.

This installment of the Are You Disaster Ready series deals with the basic of learning food dehydration and hydroponics.  Neither are skills that are learned overnight but with practice.  One of the side benefits with dehydration is that you can make your own healthy snacks the way you want them.  No longer do you have to put up with the overpriced offerings at the grocery store.

Hydroponics is another area where having the skills in growing your own without having a garden can yield its distinct benefits.  The easiest way to start is to grow lettuce.  Using the AeroGarden system, you can quickly learn how to do it with several different lettuce offerings.  When you are comfortable with lettuce, you can move onto other possibilities such as cherry tomatoes and jalapenos to make your salsa base or strawberries to make your own strawberry chips or fruit leather.

The only thing that is worse than doing only a little planning is doing no planning at all.
Here is some of what you will see discussed in this book

Choosing a  Mandolin
Choosing a Vacuum Sealer

    Disclaimer

Unfortunately in this world of lawsuits, I want to make the following disclaimer. Everything that I have written about here is about my own experiences or as a result of research that I did.  Your results may vary from mine. What you will read about here are steps I have taken for my own emergency preparations.  If I haven’t ordered something but found that it was something that I would be looking at in the future, I will indicate that.

This eBook is written from a point of view of someone who has made heir own preparations for times of emergency/disaster. There is usually more than one way to do anything that I will talk about here.

    Introduction

It seems with each passing day there is an increasing number of events where a little bit of preparation in advance would help save some headaches and make it easier to deal with.  The problems can range from a small civil unrest as a result of local problem to a power outage related to weather or equipment failure to something more catastrophic such as an ice or snow storm over an area of several counties or more.  While there is usually help available at a state, regional or national level, it take a while for that help to arrive where it is needed.

Having spent several years as a volunteer first responder, I have dealt with a variety of natural disaster - a tornado, a flood, and a few others. In this situations, I have been what can happen if you aren’t at least a little bit prepared for when something happens.  This book will be looking at things from living in an Urban/Metropolitan area.

This book,  Are You Disaster Ready? - Food (Part of the Natural Disaster Survival Series) reviews areas that we all need to consider to have food that you can depend on when a disaster happens.  I will cover hydroponics which is grown food without soil, something that we can all do with very little training or equipment.  Preserving food for long term storage by either canning or drying will also be covered as well. All of these areas I have acquired the equipment and have walked through what you are reading about in this eBook.  There are times that you may either not have your own prepared food handy or need to fall back on an already prepared option.

As with any plan, it will be a good idea to periodically review what you have done.  See if there are any updates that need to be made to your existing preparations.  As technology changes or improves, you may see that some of the preparation you have done in the past is no longer needed.  What I show you here are just a sampling of what you are able to do on your own,  your limit to what is possible will be your imagination.
