If you have already encountered this topic and wish to know more about it, this is not the book for you. This book is meant for absolute beginners. Each step of the process, from creating the base up to applying the different color tones, is explained in details.
To have a good start in learning how to draw a big cat or anything for this matter, you should know how to follow through the contour planes or dimensions of any basic shapes. Observe how the tones should change across the body of the figure to depict the form. The steps in these drawing tutorials are made in a way that can be applied whether you are to draw traditionally or digitally, by starting with a basic shape to create a base up to elaborating the details.
Learn how to create a simple base as a start of your subject’s primary form, in a way that how bases are made to compose other subjects. The primary form is vital in order to compose a properly proportionate drawing, and looking at several reference images to familiarize your self with the subject is the easiest way to do it.
You should be able to follow through with the main outline as your base guides you. The second step is where you make your tweaks and other adjustments. The main outline is the inner space of your blank canvas/paper where everything else will happen. This outline may or may not remain until the very last step of your drawing, so it is necessary that the lines are clean and fairly visible.
Applying the gradations is the third main step that you should know how to initiate properly. Wrong tones put in wrong portions of the drawing would ruin the entire thing. The bright and dark shades should effectively convey the dimensions of the shape, from the largest or widest curves of the body and the subtlest concave and convex areas of the face.
