      You are beautiful today, I tell my wife as we sit quietly in the large venue where the wedding is taking place.

      Jessica blushes as she turns and look at me.  This day is about Kaitlyn, Matt.  You shouldn’t be complimenting me or anyone else.

      What difference does it make if I pay you a compliment?  You are beautiful today, and I don’t care who knows it.  I smile at my stunning, petite wife.  At thirty, she is as gorgeous as ever, her light brown hair and dark brown eyes perfectly accentuating her lightly tanned skin. 

      It’s bad luck for the marriage, Jessica replies as she grimaces.  You don’t want to wish bad luck upon them before they even get started, do you? 

      Of course not, I tell her.  But I know that Preston doesn’t buy into this crap the way that you and Kaitlyn do.

      "Crap?  Her family doesn’t want us to do anything that would jinx them."

      Oh, wow, I say as I laugh quietly and shake my head.

      Here she comes, someone behind us says, causing my wife and I to turn and look toward the large double doors.  The wedding march begins to play as my wife’s best friend since second grade stands just inside the door with her father by her side.

      "Now, that is a beautiful sight," Jessica tells me as she smiles widely.  Kaitlyn begins to walk with her father toward the front of the large conference hall after we all stand to our feet.  As they pass us, my wife says something to the young bride and then turns to take my hand. 

      I have spent the last few days teasing my wife about the fact that she was not selected by the bride as her Maid of Honor or at least one of the Bridesmaids.  Jessica has assured me that she is not on the outs with Kaitlyn, but that the bride has so many sisters and other family members who wanted to be a big part of the wedding that she felt compelled to offer those positions to them.  I completely understand that rationale, but it has still been fun to give my wife a hard time about it. 

      I’m betting it won’t last more than three years, I whisper into Jessica’s ear.

      My wife turns and looks at me while stunned.  Leaning close and whispering back, she replies, That’s a horrible thing to say on their wedding day, Matt.  Take it back.

      What are we, in third grade?  I chuckle as I shake my head.  You know I am only kidding, right?

      Bad luck, she says before turning to watch the bride finally standing next to her groom.

      Family, friends, and guests; we are gathered here today to see two lives joined together as one, the minister says as she smiles at the two young people before her. 

      "Three years?" Jessica whispers questioningly as she keeps her eyes on the couple while leaning closer to me.

      Three, I reply just as quietly.

      How do you come to that number?  Jessica is eager to know as she glances at me quickly before turning her attention back to her friend’s wedding.

      I sigh.  It’s the Rule of Three, I say as I put my arm around Jessica.  You can’t get around that rule.

      What?

      How long have they known each other?

      My wife shrugs.  I guess about four years or so.

      Four, I groan.  Four fucking years before they decided to tie the knot.  The should not do it at all since they have already waited so long.

      That’s not a thing, Jessica replies.  They love each other, Matt.  They make a beautiful couple.  Look at them.

      I turn my attention back to Kaitlyn and Preston just as the minister says, Preston Gilmore, you may kiss your bride.  He leans forward and meets Kaitlyn’s lips in the middle.  They kiss with mild passion for a few seconds before separating.  Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Mr. and Mrs. Gilmore.  We all clap as the young couple smile.  They begin to walk down the aisle quickly as they make their way toward the back of the conference hall. 

      Do you really think they are doomed? Jessica asks as we clap.

      "Probably.  I mean, look at Preston and the girlfriends he had before he met Kaitlyn.  He was a player, honey.  A guy like him just isn’t meant
