Hitting the Publish
button on Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) may be one of the most exciting moments of your self-publishing experience. It is the culmination of endless nights of struggling with one blank page after the other, polishing this sentence or that paragraph, but most of all, it puts an end to the raging self-doubt that has been tearing you apart for the past months.
Clicking on that Publish
button sends a signal to the world that, damn it, you were fit for the task after all! It is a moment of release, liberation, freedom... or so I thought.
At least I did not experience it this way when I first published my book. Not that I lacked confidence in my writing skills or subject expertise. I had a few months to deal with that kind of anxiety and somehow managed to reduce that little voice inside my head to an acceptable whisper that I could conveniently ignore.
No, what ruined the publishing experience for me was the KDP platform itself.
