      Chapter 1, The Guilt of Truth

      Rita was sitting at a small table, drowning her sorrows in shot after shot of tequila. She had recently gotten divorced from her husband, who she had known since she was a young girl in China. Their families had immigrated to America back when they were just 5 years old. Her Chinese name was Ru-Tai, but she had changed it to Rita so that she would fit in better with her school friends. Her husband was Bao Wei, but everyone called him Wayne. He had been her closest companion through those hard first years in America. Their families went in to a restaurant business together, and they had a poor mastery of the English language. Rita and Wayne were sent to an American school where they were forced to learn English to survive. When they got home, they would spend long hours helping their parents translate menus into English and teaching them some basic phrases to use in their restaurant. Of course, being Chinese, Rita and Wayne were often bullied at school. They stuck together as a team, and Wayne would always stand up for Rita and make sure no one hurt her.

      As she grew up, Rita blossomed into a beautiful woman. She made Wayne very happy, and they became romantic partners as soon as they were old enough to begin feeling sexual urges. When she was in middle school, she and Wayne had shared their first kiss. By high school, Rita had really grown into her body. They didn’t make much in tips, but they were happy with their freedom, and happy with their cars.
