Self-Discipline to Exercise - Steven Hopkins
Introduction
Are you looking for a way to kickstart your journey to more physical activity, better daily habits and an all-round healthier you?
If that’s the case, then I assure you that this book is exactly what you need.
This book is going to give you the foundational knowledge you need to break those bad habits that we all develop from time to time, and really bring that fit, confident, determined version of you right out of that shell it is hiding inside.
That’s right, because within us all is the better version of ourselves that we so desperately want to set free. I understand this because I went through it myself, and with my book you can learn from my experiences. Together we’re going to make changes to your attitudes and habits that will last you your entire life.
So, who am I? Well, let me first say that I share your goals, if your goals are to become fitter, healthier and happier. That is what I want for you, and that is what I wanted for myself when I started my own journey.
Before achieving the self-discipline that I now have, I was stuck in a rut. I worked a desk job during the day and took the train home at night, before stopping at a store for my favorite frozen ready meal - usually a pizza. I didn’t feel good about myself and I wasn’t getting any exercise. I found that sitting around on a swivel chair all day just didn’t put me in the mood for being active when I left work. I discussed this with friends and they all felt the same way. It was a chance encounter with a motivation coach on the train home that changed everything for me, and now I’m going to change everything for you!
The lady I met on the train would become my self-discipline mentor and she helped me to realize how much more I was capable of. Within weeks I had discovered new interests that encouraged me to be more active. Within months I had changed my habits and was loving my new way of life, eating better and encouraging friends to actually do stuff, instead of hanging out and just drinking stuff. Within a year I had quit my job and embarked on an intense training course to become what I am today: a professional personal trainer.
Don’t get me wrong, none of this came easy, but stick with me and we’ll do things together that you hadn’t ever dreamt possible. It will take a little time for my advice to really yield the results that you want, but it will be worth it.
Remember that anything that is really worth doing is going to take serious commitment and unwavering dedication. So, just as I am prepared to let you in on my process, that I have crafted and honed from my own experiences and training, you need to be prepared to really give yourself to my system.
We all need to get more physical exercise, not just for ourselves, but to encourage our children and loved ones to do the same for their own benefit. Along the way we’ll be tackling common difficulties that we all have with self-discipline for exercise. Such as:
the usual excuses we make up for not getting exercise
how to focus on what we want and be determined to get it
issues with motivation
planning ahead to maximize your results
how to get up and keep going after a lapse
You’ll find that many of these steps will be applicable to other areas of your life. Although this book is intended to help you to achieve greater self-discipline for exercise, you’ll find the lessons here will help you in many other areas of your professional and personal life.
Self-discipline is essential if you want to stand any chance of achieving the results you want.
