      Opportunities are only seen and grabbed by those who have the ability to see beyond the human eye.

      The 1993/4 academic year was disrupted by a general strike of the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities. That was during the dictatorship of the late General Sani Abacha. The strike continued for days, which turned into weeks and months. General Abacha refused to pay the striking workers for almost a year. There was this professor of mathematics who could no longer cater for his family due to the strike. One day his wife said to him, Professor Thomas, (calling him by his name for the first time in 20 years of marriage, instead of the usual honey or darling.) There is no food in this house, the children are out of school and you parade yourself as a professor. The professor answered, but you know that they are not paying us, you know that very well, so what do you want me to do, kill myself for you, tell me? The wife retorted, So if they don’t call you people back again, you won’t find something else to do, please use your professorship brains and get us food in this house. Professor, do something now, fast, before it’s too late.
