Description

Show #434   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Thursday 4th April 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today, and picked out the best ones to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   PORSCHE TAYCAN EV ENTERS FINAL TESTING BEFORE BIG REVEAL The Porsche Taycan electric sedan is now in its final stages of testing ahead of a debut in September and sales in some markets beginning before the end of the year. The German brand has the EV on the road in 30 countries to make sure it can withstand any conditions." says Chris Bruce for InsideEVs.com: "The EV has covered 3.7 million miles of testing in the real world and 6.2 million additional miles of virtual testing. This work included using a driving simulator to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife, and the testers allegedly managed a sub-eight-minute lap time." Spec reminder: 0-60 in 3.5 and 310 miles or 500km on a charge, with 800volt battery so it can charge faster than any other EV on the market. 350kW where you can find a charger.   User Fabian on the InsideEVs.com Forum: "Frankly, when the Taycan hit’s the market, II feel like Tesla has to seriously step up the next generation MS (terms of quality, luxury, options, etc.) to diversify from the M3 or discontinue the MS and fully focus on the M3 instead (which is in a different vehicle class than the Taycan)."   https://insideevs.com/porsche-taycan-ev-final-testing/   MERCEDES-BENZ EQB CAUGHT TESTING AS ELECTRIC GLB “We've seen the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLB in spy shots before...but a new set of spy photos gives us yet another reason to love it: an all-electric powertrain." says Autoblog today who have their hands on some new spy shots of the car in full-on camo, "The giveaway here is the "Electric" sticker on the windshield, warning potential first responders of a high-voltage risk. Our spy shooter cites info from "factory insiders" giving the EQB a driving range of up to 310 miles on a single charge. This would likely end up being called the EQB, to follow the EQC in Mercedes-Benz's new all-electric lineup. The eventual look of the EQB could get more of its own styling to distinguish it from the internal-combustion versions of the GLB." In other words that boxy utilitarian shape which so many people like could well be kept into the electric era.   https://www.autoblog.com/2019/04/04/mercedes-benz-eqb-glb-electric-spy-photos/   MUSK RESCUES TESLA-OWNING CELEBRITY IN NEED What is Twitter good for if it isn't venting your frustration online, especially if you're a celebrity who can't work the brightness setting of their Tesla. What's even more interesting is the celebrity-like status of Elon Musk, and if any other CEO is looking at him and wondering what on earth the cult of Elon is all about, it's because of things like this. Where Elon will literally be the customer services person online. Sheryl Crow tweeted: "Help! Who knows what to do when your @Tesla screen goes black and the reset doesn’t work? Return it and get your money back??  #Tesla #stuckinaparkinglot" Elon say it and replied: "Change your screen preference from night mode to auto" You can almost sense his frustration as yet another mere mortal can't work his spaceship. But then he replied with a bit more of an explanation: "Night mode with 0% brightness is actually too dark during the day. This is ultimately our fault. We will update our software so that 0% brightness is always usable relative to ambient conditions." Turns out her kids had been playing with the settings and made the screen go dark. Moral of the story is clearly if you own an expensive Tesla, make you kids walk.   https://insideevs.com/ceo-musk-rescue-tesla-sheryl-c
