    Introduction

    Chocolate anyone?

There are very few people who would say ‘no’ to that. Chocolate is heaven in your mouth. Chocolate is the one reason to live. Chocolate is better than, ahem, anything!

It’s not just a bittersweet piece of dark brown goodness, oh no, chocolate has so much more significance. It is considered to be the epitome of a romantic gift. It is the best mood booster. It’s everyone's favourite comfort food.

So when you make the transition to a vegan lifestyle, why should you abandon a vital lifeline like chocolate?

The thought of abandoning chocolate for life is enough to deter people from their chosen vegan lifestyle. However, don't let this scary thought sway your decision.

Going vegan is the best choice that you can make for yourself and the environment.

Do you have pets? Did you have a childhood pet?

If you answered yes then you’ll know that animals are much more than just meat, fur and leather. They’re living creatures with very different and colourful personalities. No two animals (or birds) are alike. They have their own wants, needs, preferences and dreams. Thinking that we (humans) are above them or that they are just food is wrong on so many levels.

Every year, so many cows, chickens, goats and lambs do not even get a chance to live out their life. They are kept in close quarters where they live in their own filth and barely get a chance experience any good in life. As soon as they grow up, they are paraded towards their death so that people like you and me can have their steaks and chicken roast.

Even the so-called ‘organic’ and ‘free range’ animal products are nothing but a scam. Those animals often live in just as deplorable conditions as their other counterparts. Labeling on the package doesn't change their situation.

These animals deserve a chance to live and flourish.

In addition to the ethical plight, veganism also has many health advantages. Many of us now suffer from problems like hypertension, cardiac issues, cholesterol, obesity and high uric acid. High consumption of animal products is a significant contributor to all of these.

Plant derived food is cholesterol free, fat free and healthier. Decide for yourself which is better; some baked snow peas or a round steak? Both have a good protein content but peas are much safer and healthier.

Then there's also our environment that we have to account for. Animal farming is the leading contributor to the production of greenhouse gases. Simple agriculture farming is much better for the health of our earth. We should all be just as concerned about the health of our planet as we are about our own health.

Either way, veganism is the answer. It is not a restrictive diet by any means. Once you turn your focus away from animal products, you'll be surprised to learn how many delicious vegan options are out there.

Then there's also chocolate. However, sadly, many commercial chocolate options come accompanied with milk, butter and other dairy products. This makes them a no-go for vegans.

With this problem in mind, I decided to compile this book. Here you’ll find 101 delicious chocolate recipes. All of these recipes are vegan and very different from one another, so you’ll have something for every occasion and mood.

All the recipes included have also a subsection containing all the nutritional information for my weight watcher friends out there. All the nutritional information given is per serving.

No matter what your preferences are, I am confident that this book will have you covered.

So let's dive in to a world of chocolaty goodness!
