How to Apply Makeup Like the Pros Do - Melissa Van Dijk
Introduction
Most girls can remember playing in their mother’s makeup as children.
The colors, the textures, and the beauty of it all was irresistible, and most of us wanted to be a part of it. As we get older, though, the meaning of makeup changes. Less a costume prop and more a tool, we learn to use makeup to accentuate our best features, and look and feel beautiful each day.
Whether you’re a beginner in the world of makeup, or a professional looking to add some tricks to your tool bag, this book will help you learn how to apply common types of makeup in a way that would make the professionals proud.
Enjoy!

PREPARING YOUR SKIN
Your skin is a blank slate, and you’ve got to prepare it for beautiful makeup application. Here’s how.
How to Prepare Your Skin Before Applying Makeup
Before applying any product to your face, you must start with a clean canvas. Making sure your face is free of flakiness or oil ensures that any powder or cream that you apply will last and not look cakey.
With this in mind – wash your face before you apply any makeup. If you don’t, your makeup may clog your pores. What’s more, anything you apply to your face may look patchy. For best results, find a cleanser that fits your skin type.

If you don’t know where to start with a toner and moisturizer, ask a beauty consultant from your local beauty store (Sephora, MAC, Ulta, etc.) for recommendations. These professionals can help you choose the right products and address your beauty concerns. You can also ask them for samples to test at home if you’re not ready to commit to full-sized skin care sets.
Exfoliation
Exfoliating may sound like an extra step, but it’s essential to slough off dirt or grime that cleansers or toners leave behind. Gentle facial scrubs, chemical peel pads, and masks can be applied twice or three times a week depending on your skin goals.
The beauty industry has evolved to give consumers both natural and chemical-based products at different
