About this ebook

The book is an anthology of poetry written by author Nthabiseng Moleko who tells the story about a young South African girl who is on a journey to pursuing her destiny. Far away from home in the city of Cape Town she begins to unravel how she starts to make decisions that drive her towards purpose in her first job. The book carries 7 themes, which are descriptions of drivers along the path she navigated.

Been Chasing Destiny is about the dream of a young girl for a better Africa, and her conviction that we all can contribute to its betterment. Using poetry she reflects and encourages us to use our lives to chase our destiny, in this process positively contribute towards the betterment of our national agendas. Along the journey she outlines her source of strength is God’s love, and how He set the agenda for her life. This is how she ended up chasing destiny, living in parts of the world she never imagined, doing jobs she never dreamed of. She believes she is still on the path, trusting that as she pursues destiny God will continue to put her in places she never imagined possible. If He can do it for her, surely for you too He will do it.

Been Chasing Destiny - Nthabiseng Moleko

    INTRODUCTION

I have written throughout my life. As I air my thoughts and share my heart on paper I find that I am put at ease. It is also a way for me to converse with the Father, my Father in heaven. My life’s journey has been recorded throughout, in scrapbooks, journals, diaries, essays, notes and thoughts inscribed into my heart.

I used to write to express my views (to myself) and meditate on what I’ve experienced. Never did I imagine that I would one day take the collection of entries and share it with the world. It was during my first year of working in the Eastern Cape, as I shared the material I wrote at different platforms and forums, that the idea gained momentum. I even received support to document these thoughts into an anthology of poetry. I possibly believed that I had a contribution of a different kind that I could make in written form.

In addition to the fact that the written code on many publishers’ websites and frequently asked questions which suggest that publishing poetry is prohibited, I gathered that it doesn’t sell much. In light of that, the art form poetry is deemed unpublishable, a sorry state of affairs if you ask me.

Sales cannot be the motivation for everything, and most certainly not for writing poetry. Can you imagine a world without jazz, African contemporary or classical music, listening only to pop music because they have the most sales? My point exactly! I dared to share my heart with you. Dared to share my dreams and vision. Dared to take you on a journey of what sometimes goes on in my mind. Remember it is just my mind, don’t expect it to be like yours.

I humbly open up about my testimony to others whom I believe may be on the same journey as I am. In the hope of making the nation a better place. That is my journey, a journey of making a difference. That is the journey I have been called upon.

People usually ask me what motivates me? What leads me to doing some of the things I do? Love is what motivates me to do what I do. Love for God. Love from God. Love that gushes out of my heart from Him. For He is the source. Love overflowing everywhere that I go, leaving traces of itself.

I want to encourage all who read this book as you embark on your journey of purpose, the end is never clear. You pursue unknowingly, but have certainty as you start out. As Abram was shown by the Lord, he believed and had certainty as he prayerfully submitted his will to Him. His steps were indeed ordered as he walked by faith. God’s Word will never fail you. That is impossible.

It was from a dry place, a place where I thirsted after God, that this journey began in 2001. I was so hungry for His Word, when I was taught it, I devoured it like a hungry child. I couldn’t resist it. This hunger made me go deeper as I sought after Him, it was like we were in a dance. He danced with me, leading me to places I wouldn’t have chosen to go of my own accord. But He kept dancing with me, taking me to places where the thirst would be filled. The valleys sung and the mountains clapped as I entered into this journey, the heavens rejoice at our entry into the kingdom of God. This is where it all begins.

A journey I am still on to this day

    Been Chasing Destiny

    26.03.2008

It’s like following a star no one else sees

So clear and bright it appears to you

Yet to everyone else, they see clear blue skies

It’s like being told the bearings of the pot of gold where the rainbow ends

Being certain of it, so you chase it wherever it goes

You can see the goal, at times it’s not so clear

Unsure you are of the path

You cry out as you slip and fall on sharp rock

Words of discouragement pierce right through you

Banging your head against unseen objects at night

This path is new to you

You look around for something recognizable

    Nothing but solitude surrounds you

As you sleep in the embrace of the one who Counsels you

    Hugged by the stars

    Kissed by the moon

It’s His Presence that protects you from the wild prey

As you awaken, lips cracked, throat dry

Your supplies are running out, with nowhere else to go but ahead

You keep moving, living off what you find along the way

As you walk you notice the humming sound of the birds

The sharpness of the sun’s rays, the running waters you hear from afar

Are found in the nick of time as you continue to edge forward

Towards the star, star shining so bright

Its light engulfs you, filling you with hope

You purpose in your heart to get to the star whatever the cost

The journey winds, like a meandering river

It seems like you’re going around in endless circles

Hoping to find another on their journey to their star

    Hoping to find comfort, companionship

Eyes that will pierce through you with understanding

Alone you remain with the Invisible God surrounding you

As you approach what appears to be the last peak, you gather all your strength

    Every step sapping your energy

As you faint into His will

    There is someone carrying you

Supplies are finished, your hands raw from touching sharp rocks,

Knees chapped at your falls, lips cracking and skin burnt…

But your heart is alive, beating loudly

Blood flowing peacefully through every vein

Joy causing your heart to leap into life

    You take another step

The howling of the wind it sounds like winds of laughter

As you are reminded of those jeering at you

    But sooner than you know

The peak closest to the start, it is within reach

You have yet to reach the pot of gold

But firmly you’ve grasped peace amidst chaos

Certain of joy in the most trying times

A knowing of your purpose, a most precious gift

There’s an Invisible Hand, a Mighty One …

Feeding you when you don’t have the means

Supplying for you at all times, you’ve learnt complete trust

Nomadic, yet you find stability, for He is with you in the

North and South, West and East

Waiting when you weren’t sure if you could wait any longer

Standing when your joints were swollen and your knees were giving in

    Leaning upon His promises

If they were taken you’d fall flat on your face

So you defend them fiercely, having lived off them

Your life is in His hands

This journey, He earmarked for you

So continue I will to search for this pot

Its value far more precious than the suffering you’ve encountered

    DESTINY, I will find you

    DESTINY, I will chase you

    DESTINY, I will find you

    Chapter 1

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God¹.

This was the premise upon which my life changed, I was led by the Spirit of God. Much of our lives we live thinking that we are in control, but when you look back and reflect at events it becomes clear that there was a hand in your life that had a lot to do with how things panned out. That hand wasn’t you, it was really the Lord. Let me qualify
