About this ebook

Forbidden is a collection of poetry full of humor, wit, and meditation upon all topics from love, places, to philosophy and the classics.

In this collection, the slow-moving and deliberately sensual verse leads to vivid imagery touching both the heart and the soul.

Patel also includes a medley of delightful nuggets from past poets interwoven within her own poems of today to seamlessly form a collection that reads briskly as one moving heartfelt piece.

The waves that undulate through the mind

Hold tightly to the shores of thought

Separated only by that which is and that which is not…

    Memories bombard and then subside.

    A streetlight flickers outside,

    Bursting right before the darkness.

Its shrillness dissipates into the vacuous.

Fingers grope trying to find the way,

    But patches of relative coolness

Only impart frozen platitudes your way.

You say you hear me but do you really?

Like a coat that peels away—

It is the indelible that you will not be able to shake.

But the fog hides the truth, and you remain carried away

By its pervasive and rather persuasive hold.

    And I—shivering standing here today

    Wait whispering

    Please turn around

    Turn around

    Decadence

    The sweet pontification of chocolate

    Usurping your mind and senses,

Followed by a rich lather of exuberance

    And unquenchable torrents of delightful

Provocation is the only dessert I have to offer.

Normandy was quite some time ago.

As the glasses and plate settings prove.

Yet your mind lingers in the past, forever

Holding on to a thought, memory that slipped

Away from others so, so long ago. That proof

Of existence which can never be seconded,

Hearkens at you and eats away at the core.

Step forward into that ever enticing

Prodigious wave of delectable frenzy and charm,

And I will certainly deliver you from any

    And all choice unpalatable harm.

    Hunted

Orion with his ever-present form scintillating

Gave way with his ambivalence to those following

Him, misinterpreting him, and sanctioning him.

Another flat tire, car bomb, more clothes gone, and even more death threats left in the car seats broken into.

I sit and wait for the next time.

He smiles in the sky, knowing exactly who

And why did it, but still he says nothing.

Orion way up in the sky,

Where no one can touch you, question you, nor follow you.

There you follow others throughout the stealthy sky,

Teaching them that they too can get away with it.

    And I remain hunted.

    The Kiss

The canvas, a perfect square embodies Klimt’s golden period,

Two bodies entwined with each other
