This book consists of 2 units, the first one focuses on regular verbs and the second one on irregular high frequency verbs.
We understand that many adult learners find language learning difficult because they cannot pronounce certain words correctly. This is why this audiobook comes with a pronunciation section, in which we will once again go over the expressions learned and practice the pronunciation of the most difficult words, so you can be sure you sound like a fluent speaker.
Through this book we hope you learn how to conjugate verbs in Spanish and have flawless grammar through a wonderful and immersive tourism experience.
You might feel as the lessons go by that this book is a little bit repetitive, but the trick to language learning lies in repetition. As a matter of fact, expert linguists have stated that in order to learn something you have to listen and repeat it at least 7 times.
This book will make you repeat new words and phrases several times, it will also give you interaction exercises, so you can practice the language. It is important to note that we recommend you listen to this book more than once, so you will not only learn the vocabulary but start to assimilate the language.
Unit 1: Tenses Review
In this unit you will learn how to conjugate regular verbs in the present, past and future tense. In Spanish, verbs in their infinitive form always end with either the letters a-r, e-r, or i-r. For example, the verb apoyar
means to support, the verb meter
means to put in and the verb insistir
means to insist.
The last volume of this series will focus on reviewing all forms of conjugation we have learned. Thus far we have learned to use simple present, past and future as well as continuous present and indefinite past. On this unit we will review all of these conjugation forms.
Even though this unit has a topic it revolves around throughout every lesson, you will be acquiring language skills that can be applied to any topic.
Lesson 1: Present Tense
In this lesson you will learn how to conjugate regular verbs in the present tense.
Conjugating regular verbs is easy once you get the hang of it. In Spanish all verbs have a root and a termination.
Let’s use the verb caminar
which means to walk as an example.
To determine the root of the word, you need to eliminate the a-r in caminar
, so the root of caminar
is camin
and the termination is a-r
.
In regular verbs the root always remains the same and what changes is the termination. What this means is that depending on the pronoun used, the termination is different.
Let’s go over the verb caminar
and see how verbs ending in a-r are conjugated in the present tense.
Yo camino
means I walk. Repeat after me yo camino
as you can see the termination for the pronoun yo
is the letter o.
Tú caminas
means you walk. Repeat after me tú caminas
as you can see the termination for the pronoun tú
is the letters a-s.
Él camina
means he walks. Repeat after me él camina
as you can see the termination for the pronoun él
is the letter a.
Ella camina
means she walks. Repeat after me ella camina
as you can see the termination for the pronoun ella
is the letter a.
Nosotros caminamos
means we walk. Repeat after me nosotros caminamos
as you can see the termination for the pronoun nosotros
is the termination amos
.
Vosotros caminais
means you walk. Repeat after me vosotros caminais
as you can see the termination for the pronoun vosotros
is the termination ais
.
Ellos caminan
means they walk. Repeat after me ellos caminan
as you can see the termination for the pronoun ellos
is the letters a-n.
Ellas caminan
means they walk. Repeat after me ellas caminan
as you can see the termination for the pronoun ellas
is the letters a-n.
Now, let’s go over the verb aprender
and see how verbs ending in e-r are conjugated in the present tense.
Yo aprendo
means I learn. Repeat after me yo aprendo
as you can see the termination for the pronoun yo
is the letter o.
Tú aprendes
means you learn. Repeat after me tú aprendes
as you can see the termination for the pronoun tú
is the letters e-s.
Él aprende
means he learns. Repeat after me él aprende
as you can see the termination for the pronoun él
is the letter e.
Ella aprende
means she learns. Repeat after me ella aprende
as you can see the termination for the pronoun
