PREFACE
It seems that people are slowly forgetting the existence of the devil. This has mostly been a result of the breakthroughs in Science. People think that they now have all the answers and there is no need to worry about religion. To them religion is an invention just like many other scientific theories at their fingertips.
Gadgets and gizmos are also drawing people away from spirituality towards worldliness. Now people simply love stuff!, yes that's it!, lots and lots of stuff. Latest laptops and mobile phones have replaced prayers and praise songs.
Thanks to Hollywood and the modern feeling, people are no longer in need of religion. Hollywood has helped people to depict the devil as a spike tailed creature which last lived in the Victorian age.
Let me assure you that the devil has actually doubled his efforts in this modern era. The beast is prowling around and growling. The Christian must be wary lest he can loose his soul to this beast.
PLAYERS IN THE SPIRITUAL WARFARE
MAN AND HIS SOUL
Who am I really?, have you ever asked yourself that?. If you look at it there seems to be an inner man whom most call the soul. However do you understand the soul from the Christian standpoint?. What is it really?, what will happen to it when I die?, may be some of the questions which you can be asking.
If we look at the biblical narrative of how the world and us came into being, you will find out that God created the heaven, earth and us. Genesis 2:7 reads:
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Now you have to note that from the above verse we see that we have two versions of a man, the physical and the spiritual. LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, suggest that this was the part where God made the physical body which allow us to exist here on earth. However surprisingly he went on and, breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Now this breath of life which allow the body to move around is the soul.
To understand this better lets give an example of your phone or computer. There are two main components, the hardware (body) and software (soul). Now these two are complimentary as one cannot live without the other. The hardware without software is nothing but waste. The software need to be imprisoned in the hardware in order to be interactive. That is the same with our bodies here which is why after the breath of life, man became a living soul.
Now it may seem confusing, if the soul became a living after being inserted into the body then does that mean that when I die then it perishes?. This is when we have to look at the concept of formation versus creation. Genesis 1: 27 reads:
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him, male and female created he them.
Now after God created both man and woman in Genesis 2: 7 here is what he did:
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Seems interesting doesn’t it?. This clearly indicates that first of all God created the soul. Later on he decided to create the body which will allow men to move around and interact with the earth. So this means that the soul can live independently without
