Lady Of the Lake 3 - Charlotte Jenkins

    CHAPTER 1

    ––––––––

Andel gave Anastazie a bright smile as he observed the smile on her face. He knew she would be surprised he just hadn’t guessed she would be as astonished as leaving her mouth open and staring like she saw her grandmother’s ghost.

Hello, Ana. I’ve missed you. Did you miss me?

At that, she brought her palms to her face and began to moan.

Oh no, oh no. Of all the things to follow me from Prague to Zelezna Ruda; why did it have to be him.

She turned and shook her head in hopes that when she turned back to face him, he would disappear like an apparition. When she turned to face him, he was still there.

What in the world are you doing here?

Oh, come on, Andel said, rolling his eyes. He had had it with her attitude and managed to hold himself so that he would be able to deliver his message to her. He was sure that when she heard it, her attitude would change. Stop acting like I’m the worst thing in the world to have happened to you.

Well, it’s as though you’ve not gotten the message after all this time. You are the worst thing to have ever happened to me. Please go.

    Andel sighed in mock disappointment.

Well, I guess that’s it between us. I would never get the chance to tell you the good news for you from Charles University. It’s such a shame. He shook his head and turned away.

Wait! What do you mean? Anastazie called out. She had heard him mention Charles University. Those words had a way of turning her on her heels.

Andel turned to face her with a somber look on his face.

Oh, it’s nothing, really. I had managed to secure admission for you at Charles University. But it doesn’t matter now. You don’t want me in your life.

Anastazie couldn’t agree more with him. She didn’t want him in her life... but she wanted Charles University.

But that’s impossible. The admission processes for this year ended a month ago. There’s no way you could have done that.

    Andel chuckled.

Well, obviously, you don’t know who you are talking to. I’m a man of many means. I simply exploited one of those means to get what I wanted- the same thing you’ve always wanted; an admission.

He smiled at his ingenuity. When Matilda explained to him how much Anastazie wanted to study Mathematics at Charles University and the circumstances under which Amanda had managed to send Anastazie away from Prague, he had racked his brain on the way to get Anastazie back. Then, just before he slept later in the night, he remembered that Emilia’s father worked at the university. It was as though an angel pumped the thought into his head at the last moment. He had jumped out of bed and straight to his phone.

When he called Emilia, it turned out that she had been sleeping. She had been very much displeased with being disturbed that she almost hung up. Then he quickly explained to her why he was calling, telling her all about Anastazie. At first, there had been silence then Emilia spoke.

Why do I feel like you’re doing all these favors for this mystery girl because you are interested in her?

He had rolled his eyes at that point. It’s none of your business Emilia. Are you going to help me or not?

"Well, considering that it’s my help you’ll be enlisting, I think it’s within my rights to know
