Relationships are messy. Add chronic illness to the mix and successful relationships can seem downright impossible.

Diamonds 2020 is an online conference for chronically ill Christians. The goal of the conference is to encourage all those facing invisible battles. You aren't alone — far from it. This year, seventeen authors, bloggers, and ministry leaders who battle chronic illnesses themselves are joining together to offer hope and insight as you navigate relationships in the midst of long-term illness.

Hear from people like Joni Eareckson Tada, Bethany Beal, Kara Swanson, Pamela Piquette, and many others about topics like:

  • Your relationship with your spouse in the midst of chronic illness
  • Your relationship with your caregiver
  • Your relationships with your physically healthy friends
  • Your relationships with your fellow chronic illness warriors
  • And much more!

This study guide will help you make the most out of the Diamonds 2020 conference and remember what you learned far past the end of the conference.

Letter From The Diamonds 2020 Host

Dear Chronic Illness Warrior,

Welcome to Diamonds 2020: Fighting Together. We’re so glad you’re here — this weekend is going to be a blast, and we pray that God uses it to bless and encourage you. We know that so many of you are facing mountains and battles far greater than you can possibly survive by yourself.

The good news is that you’re not alone. Not by a long shot. There are so many of us facing such similar battles. People who get it. And more than that, we have a God who is so much bigger and more powerful than any of the mountains you face. They have no hold over Him, and because of that, they have no hold over you in light of His love.

So. Are you ready?

This weekend, we want to help you take care of your mental, emotional, and — most of all — spiritual health. Because that is just as important, if not even more so, than physical health. Sadly, it seems too often be the most neglected.

Let’s change that. Starting now. By learning how to navigate the relationships in our lives even while fighting chronic illness – from your relationship with your spouse, to your relationships with your coworkers, to your relationship with God.

In each section of this study guide, we will cover one session of the conference. If you haven’t already registered to watch the conference, you can do so for free here: http://sgwilloughby.com/diamonds-2020/ (Not to mention enter some pretty awesome giveaways.) See you over there!

In Christ,

S. G. Willoughby

Chronic Illness &

Your Relationship

with Yourself

S. G. Willoughby

Chronic illness can make us believe a lot of lies about ourselves. When something as all-consuming as illness enters our life, it’s so easy to adopt it as our identity. But this is so unhealthy for us — not to mention it’s a sin.

There is so much more to you than chronic illness, and it’s important to remember where your identity truly rests. Especially when chronic illness changes so much about you and your life and it can feel like you are losing yourself to brokenness.

Key Take-Aways:

•  Your illness is not your identity. There is so much more to you than a diagnosis. Instead, you belong to God and are marked by Him.

•  God may use illness to shape us. But it should not define us.

•  How we view and treat ourselves and our illness will affect all of our other relationships.

•  Our lives are not our own, we belong to God. So while we may lose the people we thought we were before, we will never lose
