About this ebook

Out on the edge of the universe, boundaries blur at the speed of life.

While checking an abandoned ship in the hopes of spare parts or rare luxuries, lovers Jace and Tal find a room that seems to have been made for them—it has built-in bondage table. They take advantage of the surprising find, but then the ship's communications system crackles to life, and they discover they aren't exactly alone. The ship's owner, Cruz, offers them a deal: fix up the ship—and give him live sex shows now and then—and he'll pay them for the privilege. But when their business agreement takes a turn for the personal, all three men end up getting more than they bargained for.

Out on the edge of the universe, boundaries blur at the speed of life.

While checking an abandoned ship in the hopes of spare parts or rare luxuries, lovers Jace and Tal find a room that seems to have been made for them—it has built-in bondage table. They take advantage of the surprising find, but then the ship’s communications system crackles to life, and they discover they aren’t exactly alone. The ship’s owner, Cruz, offers them a deal: fix up the ship—and give him live sex shows now and then—and he’ll pay them for the privilege. But when their business agreement takes a turn for the personal, all three men end up getting more than they bargained for.

    The ship was derelict.

Or a trap. Could be either.

Jace stepped through the doorway with an overabundance of caution. He knew his reputation would have had him storming in with lasers blazing, and not that he never did, but it just wasn’t his style. In and out without a shot fired, that’s what worked for him.

Didn’t stop him going in with his weapon at the ready.

A soft breath came from behind him, and Jace threw a hand up. Tal stopped close enough that Jace could feel his body heat. It sent a different kind of heat through Jace, but he shoved it down ruthlessly.

    Work first. Play later.

Jace crept forward, pausing every few feet to look in all directions except behind him, where he trusted Tal to have him covered. Nothing moved other than the dust floating in the rays of light from the open hatch behind them. The air smelled musty but carried no scents of life or death. Nothing made its home here, or hadn’t in a long time.

Carnid wasn’t the most welcoming planet in the grid, but they’d found the ship at a nice, green spot near a river that could make for a good home base. Mostly abandoned in favor of more urbanized spots a day or two away, the planet was dotted with empty settlements and broken-down ships like this one. A lot had long been stripped, but the last ship yielded a half a crate of good Parardian whiskey, which Jace and Tal would be enjoying for quite some time, and out here on the fringes, you could never have enough spare parts.

Jace felt a hand brush his lower back and stopped in his tracks. He leaned back far enough to touch his head to the back of Tal’s.

Anything? Tal’s raspy voice was one of Jace’s favorite things about him. His hands were another, and one of them slid against Jace’s leg, fingers wrapping around his thigh.

Not a thing, Jace replied, reaching down to squeeze Tal’s hand.

Want to split up, see if we come across anything good?

He shrugged. Might as well. Doesn’t look like anything’s around to challenge us.

They moved apart without another word. After almost five years together, they knew what to do, and not just with derelict ships.

Jace stepped his way down the corridor leading toward the bridge, checking around corners as he went. Not many of those; the ship was small, hardly more than a shuttle, unlikely to be used for long-distance travel. Probably a puddle-jumper used to get people back and forth from here to Noramid or Volk or another of the nearby hotspots. No way to know how it ended up in the ass-end of nowhere. Wasn’t even a dead settlement within hours that Jace had seen.

They took their time searching every corner, finding nothing but dust and old animal tracks. Jace finally stepped onto the bridge a good two ticks after they’d started. Stripped already, looked like. Somebody passing through and not worried about making
