Brook’s pick: the best of Alsace Grand Cru Riesling

1 Zind-Humbrecht, Rangen Grand Cru Clos St Urbain 2015 95

£65.88-£71.50 Goedhuis & Co, H2Vin

The apple and apricot fruit nose is now becoming more reserved, but the palate remains evidently rich and weighty, with great power and concentration that’s almost burly. Yet it’s also very mineral and full of extract, which gives some welcome austerity and restraint, and has a very long finish. Biodynamic. Drink 2020-2040 Alcohol 13.3%

Schoffit, Rangen Grand Cru Clos St Théobald 2016 93

£30 Savage Selection

Exceptionally lush, smoky nose, packed with stone fruits and mandarin aromas. The attack is lean, precise and fiery, the mineral tone highlighted by fine acidity. Still taut and assertive, it shows excellent length and a saline finish. Organic. Drink 2020-2038 Alc 13.7%

2 Schlumberger, Kitterlé Grand93
