Understanding INSULIN RESISTANCE

Around 3.5 million South Africans suffer from diabetes, while about 8.5 million are thought to have prediabetes. These conditions are closely linked to insulin resistance, which – fortunately – can be managed and, in some cases, even reversed.

WHAT IS INSULIN RESISTANCE?

When you eat, your body processes your food into glucose to be stored and used for energy. Rising levels of glucose, or blood sugar, trigger the release of insulin from your pancreas, which helps transport the glucose to cells in your fat, muscles and liver to be used.
