And there you are, about to play the latest version of a virtual reality game, called “Life in 2020.” It’s 2314, to be exact, and the technology has advanced, so not only is the game immersive in terms of the visual, auditory, and the basic sensory elements, but there is so much more. Computer scientists and neuroscientists have collaborated, and they have devised a procedure to suppress areas of the brain, such as the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex – areas that are responsible for your memory and general awareness – it is referred to colloquially as a memory anesthesia. They suppress the areas of your brain that would otherwise remind you that the virtual world you have just entered is just that – a virtual world. The VR of 2314 is so advanced, that when you enter the game, you start to believe that it is your only reality. You enter the game, your pregame memory is suppressed, and you now have a tiny but growing avatar body, yet you do not even remember how to walk! That was your birth.
