About this ebook

Madeline stood in the rain and the cold, but she was finally home. Leaving Santino was the hardest thing she'd ever done. He was smart and sexy as all hell. She felt there was little choice, however. The events that led her to this point had come back-to-back and she had to make some quick decisions. But she would always have something to remember him by, her secret baby.
Santino De Marco is not a man who can be easily dodged, however. He has money and power at his disposal. Now he wants answers.
When he shows up at Madeline's apartment she is startled to see him and more than shocked to discover the powerful hold he still has on her. Their passion still burns hot.
Santino will not take no for an answer, but Madeline won't be wooed so easily this time. He will have to try harder than he's ever tried before to get her back. The big question is: will her secret be his undoing?

    Chapter 1

Water was dripping down her face, the cold biting into her bones, but she was home. Sighing in relief, despite her circumstances, Madeline looked around to flag down a taxi.

Standing in the rain, waiting for a taxi cab on the streets of London was not her idea of fun, but Madeline couldn’t deny the bubble of happiness that rose inside her heart. She was back.

And her baby would be born here. That was the biggest plus as she would be protected by British law should Santino ever come back for her.

She raised her arm and a taxi pulled up on the kerb. She got in, trying as much as she could to not drench the inside of the vehicle. The driver didn’t seem to mind though, smiling back at her as she got in. ‘Where you off to, Miss?’ he asked in his very cockney British accent which brought with it a sense of security.

Madeline gave the driver the address and sat back looking at the London streets roll by as the taxi moved through the rain. Unfortunately, thoughts of Santino were never far away. She could see him in her mind’s eye, tall, dark and handsome, as clichéd as that sounded even to her. She could see his perfectly chiselled features, his beautiful dark eyes looking into hers, his body as it moved in and out of hers as they made mad, passionate love in his Spanish villa in Madrid.

Madeline briefly closed her eyes. Get a hold of yourself. He’s got another life, lives in another world, and you’ll never be part of it. You’re not one of them. Those last words were spoken by Santino’s sister, Angelina, with a smug smile on her face.

‘You alright, Miss?’ she heard the driver’s voice and forced herself out of her reverie. Realising the taxi had stopped and was right outside her building, she cleared her throat and rummaged through her handbag. ‘Thank you so much,’ she said with a smile, handing the driver the fare and a few pounds extra.

Opening the door to her small flat, she was assailed by the musky odour, the smell of a place not having been lived in for a while. Dampness was seeping through from somewhere. But she didn’t care. This was her own little place, her mother’s last wish was for her to have it before she had passed away.

A pang of hurt swept through her heart as she remembered her mother. She would never get to see Madeline graduate. But more importantly than that, her mum would never see her grandchild. Never play with him or her. Never cuddle the baby. Madeline rubbed her belly without even thinking about it as she remembered her mother.

As Madeline changed her clothes and began cleaning the dust away, she couldn’t help the other thoughts that continued to assail her. Had she made the right decision? If not, what would have been the best course of action? Did she think it through enough? Was Angelina right? Or should she have ignored her completely? Had Madeline just made the biggest mistake of her life?

An overwhelming sense of grief came over her and without wanting to she burst into tears then and there. Kneeling on the floor of her tiny flat she cried and cried until she had no more tears left to fall.

    Two months later…

Madeline had just finished a shift at a restaurant not far from her home. She was lucky enough to have found that job only a few days after returning to London. Her boss had been giving her the extra shifts she had asked for. Madeline wanted to try and save something, anything, so she could buy some baby things. She had nothing saved and when she had departed Spain she had left behind everything Santino had ever bought her. She didn’t want anyone to say she was with him
