More Leads Less Work - Barbara Grassey

    Preface

Welcome to More Leads, Less Work. This book is part of a series designed to help small business people and solopreneurs untangle the confusing web of marketing their business. In this book, I’ll show you how to use lead generation magnets to bring a steady flow of prospects into your business

During a short stint as a business coach in a high end coaching program, I had the opportunity to work with several dozen small business owners, all of whom wanted to increase their business. I discovered that while they were very good at what they did, they were uncomfortable with marketing themselves and their businesses, most to the point that they did not market at all.

Sure, they went to networking events, put ads in the local papers, even gave talks to establish their authority and credibility (a good strategy, by the way). But for the most part, their businesses limped along from month to month, and they were stuck on a feast or famine roller coaster: flush when they landed a client; worried about the light bill when there were no prospects in their pipeline.

Their problem wasn’t closing the sale—it ran deeper than that. They had no one to sell to. They needed leads and had no idea where to find their future clients.

One of the first things I’ll cover in this book is what a lead generation content piece—a lead magnet—should do for your prospects. You always keep your customer first in mind. The next component to look at is what a lead magnet should do for you, because there’s no point in creating a lead magnet if it doesn’t help your business.

Then we’ll go over the five essential components of lead magnets. I have written more lead magnets than I can count and every time I write one, either for myself or a client, I learn something new. Over the years, I have analyzed exactly what a lead magnet must include to inspire people to opt in.

There are worksheets that you will fill in as we go along which will collect the information you’ll need when you start writing your lead magnet. Don’t worry—I’m going to walk you through how to write an easy-peasy lead magnet so you can get it done, quickly and easily.

Last, but not least, we're going to talk about how to deploy your lead magnet, how to send it out there in the world to find prospects for you. Small business people spend a lot of time trying to find clients: sifting and sorting through the tire kickers, setting up appointments with people who are not good prospects, and yes, taking on clients that are not fun to work with because you have to get business in the door. A lead magnet helps bring clients to you. In addition, an effective lead magnet will help people decide if they are right to work with you and will help prepare them to work with you. Let your lead magnet do the heavy lifting and sort the people who come into the top of your sales funnel.

Why Should You Listen to Me?

I think it's very important that you learn from people who are actually doing in the real world what they teach. I started out in the internet marketing world back in the early 2000s. I have been a ghostwriter for close to 18 years, writing business books and courses for local and national speakers, business owners, and trainers. In addition, I am an author, editor, and speaker. I have written over 60 books, eBooks, courses, manuals, as well as countless marketing pieces including lead
