The study was carried out through the Asian Development Bank (ADB) regional technical assistance (RETA) 9088: Strengthening Gender-Inclusive Growth in Central and West Asia. The overall research process was supervised and managed by the gender and development team of the Central and West Asia Department (CWRD), composed of Mary Alice Rosero (social development and gender specialist); Gladys Puzon Franco (social development and gender officer); Gulnora Kholova (national implementation consultant of Tajikistan Resident Mission); and Maria Lisa Alano (technical assistance gender coordinator). Fritz Tadeo Tuliao (senior project analyst) provided overall administrative support. Timur Saliev of Tajikistan Resident Mission rendered administrative support to the research team in the Tajikistan. Emilia Rossi was the lead researcher and writer; Barno Kurbanova and Nigina Rajabova provided data gathering support.
The publication would not have been made possible without the full support of the CWRD management team led by Werner Liepach, director general, with support from Nianshan Zhang, deputy director general, Jesper Klindt Petersen, advisor and head of the Portfolio, Results, Safeguards and Gender Unit, and Pradeep Srivastava, Tajikistan Resident Mission country director.
We are also grateful for the valuable inputs of peer reviewers from the Gender Equity Thematic Group Nidup Tshering, senior social development officer of the Bhutan Resident Mission and Nasheeba Selim, senior social development specialist gender of the Bangladesh Resident Mission. Farrukh Nuriddinov, senior project officer of the Tajikistan Resident Mission, also reviewed and provided comments.
The team is grateful to the Tajikistan Resident Mission staff and partners from government, civil society organizations, local government, communities, and households who shared data
