Time for a computer tidy up!
Recently I ventured up into my loft, always a source of shame for this generally organised person, as over the years it has increasingly become a dumping ground. Surveying the piles of boxes, as they encroach on to the narrow pathways between them, I could identify some familiar items, some a mystery with long-forgotten contents and plenty of candidates for a one-way trip to the recycling centre.
We can draw parallels between these dusty storage spaces and our computers. Moore’s Law, which observed that the pace of computer performance doubled every two years, has remained uncannily accurate for over 50 years, not just in processing power but also in storage space. My first IBM PC had an incredible 10MB disk drive, enough to run Windows 3.0, or in 2020 terms, just enough for two photos from my iPhone. Imagine a loft space that doubles every two years; most certainly dangerous in some hands!
