FOREWORD
It is my considered opinion, after a lifetime of being a personal and business development coach that the biggest difference between super achievers and the mediocre achievers in life is NOT intelligence, it is NOT opportunity, it is NOT money, and it is NOT superior knowledge, as most people erroneously believe.
After more than 30 years as a Consultant helping people achieve their goals and dreams, I am firmly convinced that the biggest single point of difference between winners and losers, or high achievers and non- achievers, is positive action or lack of it.
Everywhere in the world, the action takers always got ahead faster and higher than procrastinators even when they are not as endowed with as many resources, talent or opportunity.
Inertia is a silent invisible killer of destiny. In this season where everyone needs to get up and do something to improve their lot in life, this book is indeed a book for the season.
It is a fact of life that you cannot win anything big in life while sitting on your butt. To be an achiever in anything, the first thing you must learn to conquer is inertia. This book gives you the tools to do exactly that.
In this amazing book, Overcoming Inertia, Olufunke Okeni takes this difference maker called Inertia by the neck, demystifies it, and then gives you the simple practical strategies to conquer it forever in the pursuit of your destiny.
I am excited about the power this book on inertia can unleash in your life,
family, career and business. I very much recommend this book to anyone who may be struggling with procrastination or those who feel they can be more than they are right now.
I encourage you to read all the pages with purpose, and very soon you would be operating at the optimum level and beyond.
Overcoming Inertia will show you how to finally give the finger to procrastination, laziness and it will help you find the energy to complete your climb to the top of your game.
Let’s go make things happen.

INTRODUCTION
Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement and success have no meaning.
Benjamin Franklin.
Achievements. Accomplishments. Successes. Take a moment to think about these words. How do you react to them as a leader, an entrepreneur, an employee, a student, a parent, or a volunteer? Are you familiar with them?
He was my manager. I was the fresh-faced college grad working as a sales rep. Don't give me efforts. Give me results.
Cold, right? Well, here is the dreadful news. He was right. Plans are great and exciting to talk about, especially when they sound grand, but achievements are greater. No results and people stop respecting you and your ideas.
I love watching Shark Tank. The investors, sharks they are called, listen to budding entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to raise venture capital. Invariably, after listening to the plans, every single entrepreneur is asked, So what have you done?
What are your sales?
and Tell me about your sales?
Results. And then the sharks ask, What are your sales projections, and what are you doing to bring them into reality?
They want to gauge the entrepreneur's dedication to the venture's future and to consistently produce results.
Interestingly, the sharks have a great sense of direction. When a business idea being pitched has too many branches, the sharks attempt to separate the main business idea from the minor ones. It's strategic because they understand distractions stunt the possibility of achieving set goals.
Sadly, most people fail to act on big things because they are focused on distractions. Some fail because they are having a difficult time with the
small stuff, those things that don't matter. Another group of people fails because of their philosophies. But there is yet another set of people who fail, those who are used to being lazy. When your body is used to being in a state of inertia, it could grow allergic to movement.
You must understand that everything produces. The orange tree produces oranges. The CEO produces profits for shareholders. The sun produces heat, light, and a whole bunch of radiation. Even laziness produces something. It's called NOTHING. What have you produced? What are you producing? Can you produce things that make life meaningful? Can you do things in your life that truly matter?
If you're like 20 percent of the U.S. population, you find yourself blowing a great deal of time and energy on time wasters. My father called them, Small foxes that destroy a life.
These are typically accessible yet add no value to your life purpose.
The average person spends 118 minutes each day on social media. That amounts to 43,070 minutes each year on average. The word ‘average’ means many spend way much more time than this on social media. And I promise you, many of these people do not run businesses on social media platforms.
Life is what happens when you live without thinking. Purpose and vision get placed on the back burner in favor of conformity and leisure.
Remember that every single day that passes is a missed opportunity to do the valuable stuff, those big things that truly matter in your life. Too many people experience painful regret when they run into a former classmate or colleague or hear how someone else achieved wealth implementing an idea they had sat on for ages.
My Struggle with Procrastination
For years, I imagined myself very prudent with my time. I mean, I did not waste time by arriving too early for any event. For so much of my life, I had a lot of responsibilities that did not give me much time for myself. I lulled myself into thinking I was not a procrastinator but someone who liked being under pressure and could cope with it quite well. All it took was knowing what to do and doing it.
After laying both my parents to rest within a week, I lost interest in much and became a semi-robot. I did great at my job but struggled with pursuing any other ambition. Until I woke up three years after my last college degree and realized I had yet to read an entire book, yet I had dozens of unread books.
Let me tell you, when a lifelong voracious reader loses interest in books, that is a red flag. Most of my books were not read because I kept postponing to tomorrow. During my annual check with my mentor, I was asked about my goals.
