Mindful Breathing - Donald Matthews
Forward
This book is intended to be both a self help resource for those interested in mindfulness practices and a practitioner’s guide to mindful breathing. The intention being that mindfulness and breathing practices are immediately useful to many types of people in all walks and stages of life. Whether you are learning about mindfulness for the first time, or continuing to learn more to refine your practice, you will find this book expands on what we currently know about mindfulness as a meditative practice for regulating attention and emotions, and as a psychological intervention for improving mood and enhancing well being. While mindful breathing is not a medical intervention and should not be used to replace any medications or treatment prescribed by a physician, it can be used to supplement medical and pharmacological interventions. Always consult your medical doctor when exploring new interventions for conditions relating to your health. If you are a therapist, counselor or psychologist treating individuals with depression, anxiety, emotional or attentional disorders, mindfulness can be used as a therapeutic intervention. Whether you are a scientist or a practitioner, you will find benefit in learning more about mindfulness in its many forms and its application to psychological disorders or for self help.

Breathing exercises seemed promising for someone with my condition. I had already experienced different types of medical interventions related to breathing disorders for people with asthma such as breathing therapy machines, inhaled corticosteriods and bronchodilators. I
